We are looking for a Principal Project Manager for development and construction of a Simple and Combined Cycle Generation Facility. As a Principal Project Manager you will be responsible for managing the development, construction, and commissioning of the Combined Cycle facility utilizing the Alliant Energy Program and Project Management methodology and processes. This position will be responsible for leading the project team, risk management, coordinating with Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor, Owner’s Engineer (OE), Engineer of Record (EOR), and other project stakeholders. This is a hybrid position reporting from Cedar Rapids, IA. Experience with Simple or Combined Cycle Gas Combustion Turbine (CT) Generation projects required. Job Summary Principal Program Manager - Construction is responsible for leading the delivery of high cost, high risk, and extremely complex programs, along with guiding the development, implementation, and improvement of the Alliant Energy Program and Project Management methodology and processes to meet evolving business needs. Provides expert business consulting, program, and project management consulting, and mentorship as needed to senior leadership for the achievement of strategic objectives. Recognized as a strategic thought leader and subject matter expert in program and project management, influencing best practices and driving innovation across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree Project Management, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) - Project Management Institute (PMI) Required
  • 15+ years professional experience in program or project management managing multiple large projects.
  • 10+ Years combined experience in managing large construction projects in one or more of the following areas: Gas Turbine generation construction (Combustion Turbines (CT), Combined Cycle or Simple Cycle, Reciprocating Internal Combustion Turbines (RICE)), Wind Generation construction or repowering, Solar Generation construction, Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) Storage construction, Energy Storage System (BESS) construction.
  • Is an expert in all Project Management areas: Scope, Time, Cost, Risk, Resource, Quality, Communication, and Contract Management.
  • Has extensive experience leading/mentoring staff in the areas of Project/Program Management for large construction projects.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems of a complex nature and implement an effective solution.
  • Ability to organize large program and project plans and effectively document accordingly.
  • Demonstrated understanding of project management methodology and the ability to promote and improve program and project management practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and carry out responsibilities with a minimum of direction.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership and team skills.
  • Ability to develop and apply performance measures.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Initiates and leads project stage rate and periodic quality reviews for high risk, high cost, value-added, or large, extremely complex projects.
  • Leads and enhances enterprise program and project governance responsibilities, ensuring strategic alignment and operational excellence.
  • Drives continuous improvement of program and project management methodologies, leading the development and delivery of advanced processes, tools, and training to meet evolving stakeholders and organizational needs.
  • Serves as a strategic advisor and subject matter expert, providing deep expertise in program and project execution to sponsors, customers, and other key stakeholders, while guiding project managers successfully through highly complex project lifecycles.
  • Maintains a comprehensive, strategic view of the overall project portfolio and communicates to sponsors, customers, executives, and other key stakeholders.
  • Oversees escalation and resolution of critical portfolio risks and issues, leading triage efforts and recovery strategies to realign troubled initiatives with business objectives.
  • Demonstrates expert-level knowledge of program management methodology including how it supports strategic alignment, benefits management, stakeholder engagement, integration management, and program risk management.
  • Provides support and mentors others in the use of organizational change management methodology within the context of program and project management.
  • Provides direct program management leadership and oversight for highly complex large strategic programs.
  • Engages in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy's Values and helps deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.
