Principal Product Manager, AI - People & Places

AmplitudeSan Francisco, CA

About The Position

We’re building a People team powered by AI — not just augmented by it. This new role embeds an AI practitioner directly inside the People & Places function to design, deploy, and scale AI agents that take on high-volume tactical work, freeing the team to focus on what only humans can do. This is not a traditional PM role: there’s no external roadmap, no feature backlog. You’ll partner across Talent, Total Rewards, HRBPs, L&D, and People Ops to find the highest-impact opportunities, then build and ship them.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in product management, with meaningful experience inside or directly supporting an HR / People Operations environment.
  • Hands-on experience scoping and deploying AI or automation in HR contexts (onboarding agents, self-service bots, compensation tools, etc.).
  • Familiarity with modern HR tech stacks (ATS, HRIS, LMS) and their native AI capabilities.
  • Experience with AI/LLM tools — no-code platforms, API-based solutions, or prompt-driven agents — and translating them into real workflows.
  • Able to write real code (Python, JavaScript, or similar) — not just prompt your way through a problem. You can read a diff, debug a broken script, and build a working prototype without an engineer holding your hand.
  • Strong ability to earn trust with non-technical stakeholders and translate operational pain into clear product requirements.
  • Bias for action, comfort with ambiguity, and good judgment about where AI should and shouldn’t operate in people processes.
  • Built conversational AI agents for HR use cases (onboarding assistants, policy Q&A bots, manager coaching tools).
  • Experience with agentic frameworks — n8n, Zapier, LangChain, Claude, or similar.

Nice To Haves

  • Navigated compliance and data privacy in HR AI contexts (EEOC, GDPR, SOC 2).
  • Built agents or automations for international / multi-region environments — with hands-on appreciation for what that entails: data residency requirements, local labor law variation, multi-language support, regional HR system differences, and the cultural nuances that make a one-size-fits-all workflow fall apart.

Responsibilities

  • Map and audit People team processes to identify AI-ready opportunities; maintain a prioritized backlog from quick wins to longer-horizon initiatives.
  • Evaluate existing HR tech (Workday, Greenhouse, etc.) for underutilized AI capabilities before building new.
  • Design and deploy AI agents and automations — defining workflow logic, decision rules, and guardrails for sensitive HR contexts.
  • Own end-to-end rollout: requirements, testing, change management, adoption, and iteration.
  • Serve as the People team’s strategic AI advisor — translating market possibilities into practical, impactful solutions.
  • Define and track success metrics (time saved, error reduction, adoption) and build feedback loops for continuous improvement.
