What You Will Do: Pratt & Whitney Mikro Systems is designing ceramic cores and tooling for turbine airfoil castings to be manufactured at P&W’s state-of-the-art Asheville, North Carolina, foundry. Mikro Systems utilizes a manufacturing process that produces intricate, multi-walled ceramic cores. As development progresses, we need innovative ideas to address the unique challenges created by fully featured ceramic bodies. The Mikro team is seeking a talented Product Engineer who can think outside the box, identify root causes, evaluate part data, and provide innovative solutions.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent experience with a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field with 5 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience with 3D modeling/drafting software (preferably Siemens NX or SolidWorks).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to government contract requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software (preferably Siemens NX or SolidWorks).
  • Working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) standards, specifically ASME Y14.5-2009.
  • Familiarity with turbine blade and vane design.
  • Knowledge of investment casting and molding tooling design.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with leadership and executive teams.
  • Understanding of how Integrated Product Teams function.
  • Background in dimensional analysis, including standard deviation, calculating Cpk, and evaluating critical part parameters.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the project lead for the development, manufacturing, and delivery of parts to meet customer specifications.
  • Apply Six Sigma DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) methodologies to identify and implement process improvements and enhance product quality.
  • Provide operations support and assist with the Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) process; support and/or participate in Continuous Improvement (CI) events and CORE activities (quality improvement).
  • Lead and/or assist the manufacturing engineering team in investigations related to parts and tooling.
  • Collaborate with the manufacturing engineering team on design changes and/or specifications to ensure effective product design and implementation.
  • Calculate dimensional variation, deviation from nominal, Cpk, part yield, and determine dimensional capability based on part inspection data.
  • Utilize CAD software, specifically Siemens NX, to review tooling designs and blueprints for the aerospace product line.
  • Demonstrate self-motivation and a willingness to walk the shop floor to identify and resolve issues.
