To achieve this goal, the CHSE (Cloud Hardware Systems Engineering) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for seasoned engineers with a dedicated passion for customer focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions that will manage and optimize the Cloud infrastructure. We are looking for a hardware Principal Power System Electrical Engineer to join the System Design team.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in front-end single phase or 3-phase PFC design.
  • 5+ years of experience in isolated high voltage to low voltage DCDC converter.
  • 2+ years in power system stability analysis and simulation.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Proven knowledge in Electromagnetic field theory and simulation.
  • Understanding of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), grounding, and thermal management.
  • 5+ experience in power system engineering, preferably in rack power or data center environments.
  • 5+ years of experience with product bring-up and troubleshooting skills with power supply testing methodologies.
  • 5+ years of experience developing design specifications, design guidelines, and test plans.
  • 5+ years of experience with design and simulation tools such as Matlab/Simulink, Ansys Maxwell 2D/3D, PLECS, and Python, Cadence, Mathcad, LTSpice, Simetrix/Simplis or PSCAD.
  • Familiar with digital bus design, such as I2C/PMBus, Modbus, and CANbus.
  • Familiar with safety standards and application process.
  • Familiar with power supply qualification standard and process, such as components derating, MTBF and EMC.
  • Detail oriented communication skills.
  • Experience with Data center power delivery is a plus.
  • Familiar with compute board DC power system design and evaluation is a plus.
  • Experience with power system integration in ODM or CSP environments is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Define and design rack level power systems to enable integration of a variety of IT gears into Microsoft data centers.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to drive product qualification full test coverage to meet product requirements and ensure product deployment.
  • Contribute to rack level power system solution roadmap with cross-functional teams and vendor partners to ensure long term scalability of Microsoft power infrastructure.
  • Lead system stability analysis using impedance-based methods and other advanced modeling techniques.
  • Drive simulation and modeling efforts for system transient and steady-state analysis.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on power delivery for high-performance compute (HPC), AI workloads, and ODM platforms.
  • Define and enforce power system design standards, safety protocols, and compliance with global regulatory requirements.
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to technical leadership across the infrastructure organization.
  • Engage with external partners, suppliers, and academic collaborators to advance power system innovation.
