About The Position

As a Principal Power Engineer, you will be responsible for power delivery design and development for rack-level solutions and testing these to meet customers’ data center requirements. This includes selecting correct components for AC and DC power delivery (Whips, Bus Bar, PDUs, PSUs), developing tools to qualify rack power interface into the data center, implementing testing, and debugging issues with customers and suppliers. You will need to support cross-functional teams with power expertise during the design phase in various system areas; mechanical, thermal, firmware, and electrical. You will be developing new hardware and software for testing against power delivery requirements and automating these tests to improve coverage and efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and 12+ years of experience or equivalent in system hardware design with a focus on power (alternatively a MS and 10+ years)
  • Ability/experience working with suppliers, ODMs, and customers
  • Experience with Power conversion stages/topologies in the 500W to 20KW power range (power factor correction, DC/DC, DC/AC, battery chargers/dischargers) and general analog circuit design skills
  • Experience with Single-phase and three-phase lower voltage utility power delivery including UPS systems and generators
  • Working experience with Lab equipment like programmable AC sources, active DC loads, oscilloscopes, power analyzers, DVMs, signal generators, and basic soldering tools
  • Basic understanding of regulatory requirements regarding safety and immunity/compatibility of power systems and components
  • Basic battery systems knowledge for backup power systems
  • Server power management protocols knowledge such as IPMI, PMBus, and SMBus
  • Experience with automating testing
  • Strong understanding of power electronics design and testing of AC/DC power delivery systems
  • Strong analog circuit skills to develop new testing tools
  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects, grow knowledge and capabilities of the power team, and perform hands-on testing

Responsibilities

  • Interface with suppliers and customers during development to review requirements, resolve bugs, report testing results, and provide feedback
  • Analyze power delivery from rack power inputs to servers and understand compatibility with data center power delivery systems
  • Collaborate to develop detailed testing plans for meeting customer data center power delivery requirements
  • Collaborate to develop new testing tools and equipment for qualifying racks to function with zero downtime in the data center
  • Write technical documentation and presentation for internal and external use
