Always ready, always on! Zetron is seeking a Principal Platform Software Developer to join the Platform Engineering Team as a senior individual contributor. In this role, you will provide technical leadership across Zetron’s platform ecosystem, spanning both DevOps and Cloud/SRE concerns. You will design, review, and evolve cloud and on-premises application platforms that support mission-critical systems with demanding reliability, security, and operational requirements. This role operates with minimal oversight and significant autonomy. You will work across teams and domains to solve complex platform challenges, influence architectural direction, and ensure platform capabilities align with long-term business, reliability, and security goals. While this is not a people-management role, it carries broad technical accountability and organizational influence with an expectation of mentorship for all members on the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Ten or more years of experience in platform engineering, cloud engineering, SRE, or closely related roles, evaluated on a skills basis
  • Deep hands-on experience designing and operating production platforms in cloud and/or hybrid environments
  • Strong experience with AWS and modern cloud architectures
  • Advanced experience with infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, and automation practices
  • Strong understanding of reliability engineering, observability, and incident response
  • Demonstrated ability to influence architecture and technical decisions across teams

Responsibilities

  • Design and evolve cloud and on-premises platform architectures supporting mission-critical applications
  • Review and guide platform designs and implementations across DevOps and Cloud/SRE streams
  • Define platform patterns, standards, and reference architectures that scale across teams
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to leaders and application teams
  • Be an advocate and safe-guard for quality of design and code that is produced by the platform engineering team
  • Embed reliability and security considerations into platform architecture and design decisions
  • Identify systemic reliability and security risks and drive platform-wide improvements
  • Guide the evolution of observability, incident response practices, and operational maturity
  • Ensure platform designs align with organizational reliability targets, risk tolerance, and compliance requirements
  • Design and influence cloud infrastructure and platform capabilities, primarily in AWS, with awareness of hybrid and on-prem environments
  • Guide the use of infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, and automation to improve consistency, safety, and scalability
  • Evaluate and influence tooling and technology choices across the platform ecosystem
  • Familiar with Infrastructure as Code automation tools like Atmos, Spacelift, Terraform Cloud, or similar
  • Provide senior technical leadership during high-severity incidents and complex outages
  • Drive post-incident learning and ensure systemic issues are addressed through design and process changes
  • Contribute to disaster recovery strategy, architectural readiness, and recovery planning
  • Run disaster recovery drills, identifying key failures, and opportunities for improvement
  • Mentor Staff and Senior developers through design reviews, technical guidance, and problem-solving
  • Collaborate with security, operations, and product stakeholders to align platform capabilities with business needs
  • Raise the technical bar through example, documentation, and clear technical communication
