Principal Plant Engineer - HVAC / Utilities is responsible for maintaining the site’s facility infrastructure including buildings, HVAC, GMP utilities, steam, water, sewer, and other utility systems to a state of compliance. They must assure that facilities and related infrastructure are fit for use when needed, maintenance and reliability techniques are efficient and effective, and appropriate corrective and improvement actions are taken when necessary. They are also responsible for the efficient and effective management of local capital for their assets and oversight of engineering / maintenance contract resources.

  • Maintain HVAC/Utilities programs up to date with industry standards and regulatory expectations.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and lead safety initiatives.
  • Understand HVAC applications in aseptic manufacturing and monitor system critical operational parameters.
  • Develop scope for capital projects for recapitalization and process improvements.
  • Act as user representative for capital projects or delivery agent for local projects.
  • Perform system/assets qualification process monitoring and routine alarm reviews.
  • Troubleshoot problems and communicate with customers regarding system issues.
  • Serve as a technical leader and mentor for Sr. Specialists and Plant Engineers.
  • Evaluate activities impacting the qualified state for HVAC/Utilities systems.
  • Manage CAPA and observation/deviation investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Participate in Process Team and serve as HVAC and Utility SME for audits.
  • Lead or participate in Verification and Qualification activities.
  • Drive improvement opportunities associated with equipment and processes.
  • Provide oversight for scheduled shutdowns.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
  • 4 years of experience with a highly technical understanding of HVAC and Utilities.
  • Previous experience within the Pharmaceutical Industry.
  • Ability to apply statistical thinking concepts to manufacturing analysis.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional environment.
  • Strong computer skills in software packages (SAP, Excel, JMP, etc.).
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
