Job Overview Macy’s Media Network (MMN) is seeking a seasoned Retail Media veteran to serve as our Principal, Optimization Strategy. As we approach 2026—a critical year for accelerating our Sponsored Products business—we need a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to define and drive performance excellence across our entire ad portfolio. In this high-impact role, you will be the architect of our optimization philosophy. While your primary focus will be mastering the mechanics of Sponsored Search to drive maximum yield and ROAS, your scope extends across all addressable channels including on-site display, programmatic video, and paid social. You will act as a strategic bridge between Sales, Ad Operations, and our Product teams. Working in lockstep with the Director of Sales – Emerging & Marketplace, you will build the operational frameworks that allow us to scale support for thousands of marketplace sellers via our new Ad Center, while simultaneously providing high-touch, bespoke optimization strategies for our largest Enterprise accounts.

Requirements

  • Experience: 10+ years of digital media experience, with a specific focus on Retail Media Networks (RMN) or eCommerce search marketing.
  • Search Expertise: Deep, hands-on mastery of Sponsored Products/Search Marketing is non-negotiable. You must understand the mechanics of second-price auctions, relevance scoring, and keyword match types. Experience with Amazon Ads, Criteo, or Pacvue/Skai is highly preferred.
  • Multi-Channel Fluency: Strong working knowledge of DSP mechanics (The Trade Desk, DV360) and Social platforms (Meta/TikTok/Pinterest).
  • Operational Leadership: Experience managing or guiding offshore/outsourced teams and defining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for scale.
  • Training & Development: Proven ability to break down complex technical concepts into digestible training modules for broader teams.
  • Analytical Rigor: Expert-level ability to interpret data and translate metrics into business impact.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel.
  • Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms.
  • Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on department and company needs.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Serve as the undisputed SME for Sponsored Products (Sponsored Brand, Sponsored Display, Sponsored Product). Define "what good looks like" regarding keyword strategies, bidding logic, and budget pacing to drive 2026 revenue targets.
  • Performance Standards: Establish network-wide benchmarks for ROAS, CTR, and Conversion Rate by category. diagnose underperforming segments and deploy remediation strategies.
  • Algorithm Mastery: Deeply understand the nuances of the MMN search algorithm (powered by Amazon Ads technology) to guide clients and internal teams on how to win the digital shelf.
  • Partner with Sales: Collaborate closely with the Director, Sales – Emerging & Marketplace to ensure the MMN Ad Center is delivering ROI for self-service advertisers.
  • Offshore Management: Manage and optimize the workflow of our offshore support partners. You will define the "playbooks" they use to provide mass-scale optimization support for the long-tail of Marketplace vendors, ensuring quality control and consistency.
  • Automation: Identify opportunities to automate optimization tasks for smaller accounts, allowing human talent to focus on complex Enterprise challenges.
  • Full-Funnel Strategy: While Search is the priority, you will also oversee optimization standards for On-Site Display, Programmatic (Display/Video), and Paid Social. Ensure that full-funnel campaigns are working in harmony, not silos.
  • Enterprise Consulting: Partner with Sales Leadership on top-tier Enterprise accounts to design complex, multi-channel optimization strategies that unlock incremental investment.
  • Curriculum Development: Design and roll out a comprehensive "Optimization Certification" program for the Campaign Management and Sales teams. You will create the training materials, best practice guides, and troubleshooting trees.
  • Upleveling Talent: Act as a mentor to the Campaign Management team, transforming them from "task executors" into "strategic optimizers" who can proactively spot trends and articulate value to clients.
  • Knowledge Management: Maintain a central repository of case studies and optimization wins to arm the Sales team with proof points.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
