About The Position

The role of the 325 Building Radiochemical Processing Laboratory (325RPL) Planner/Junior System Engineer is to develop work control documents and associated permits. In addition, they will provide assistance to 325RPL System Engineers in maintaining operations and sustainability of the facility. Manages and supports the operations of the Radiochemical Processing Laboratory (RPL), a Category II, Non-Reactor Nuclear Facility. Integrates operation and maintenance planning to support the long-term operation of the nuclear facility. Administers RPL Safety Management programs and maintains records for RPL facility operations. The NFS is assigned multiple assignments with associated specialty responsibilities. Work must meet 10 CFR 830 regulatory and safety basis requirements. Plans, schedules, and implements the conduct of operations and maintenance required to work at the nuclear facility and integrates R&D projects. Adheres to all RPL Safety Management programs (i.e., conduct of operations, nuclear maintenance, DOE qualified database management and records/document management) required per RPLs mission. Procedures and work processes are implemented at a high level of rigor to ensure compliance with Safety Basis facility requirements. Participates in and leads interdisciplinary teams as required. Conducts overall work with an understanding of the facility Technical Safety Requirements, permits, and surveillances.

Requirements

  • BS/BA and 9 years of relevant experience -OR- MS/MA or higher and 7 years of relevant experience
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Background Investigation: Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter in accordance with 10 CFR 710, Appendix B.
  • Drug Testing: All Security Clearance positions are Testing Designated Positions, which means that the applicant selected for hire is subject to pre-employment drug testing, and post-employment random drug testing. In addition, applicants must be able to demonstrate non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for the 12 consecutive months preceding completion of the requisite Questionnaire for National Security Positions (QNSP).
  • Applicants will be considered ineligible for security clearance processing by the U.S. Department of Energy if non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for 12 months cannot be demonstrated.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be Rad Worker II qualified, as the position will involve entry into radiological areas.
  • Must be willing and able to work in radiologically controlled or high hazard areas where response to potential emergencies require the ability to walk with purpose during a building evacuation.

  • Demonstrated experience in the nuclear facility operations to include a working knowledge of Department of Energy (DOE) Orders DOE O 422.1, “Conduct of Operations,” 10 CFR 830 Sub Parts A and B, DOE O 425.1D, “Verification of Readiness to Startup or Restart Nuclear Facilities,” DOE O 420.1C, “Facility Safety,” and DOE Standard DOE-STD-1073, Configuration Management.”

  • Experience as a member of an Emergency Response Organization.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Screener Manager by reviewing work activities for impacts on the Operating Envelope and Safety Basis.
  • Observing facility maintenance activities to assess conditions, compliance with procedures, and initiating corrective actions when necessary.
  • Qualifying in key roles, such as Nuclear Work Planner, Nuclear Work Team Leader, Fact Finding/Critique Coordinator, and Unreviewed Safety Question (USQ) Screener.
  • Coordinating maintenance, construction, and off-shift activity schedules with tenant organizations.
  • Conducting technical reviews of job packages, procedures, and facility documentation for accuracy and alignment with plant systems and components.
  • Supporting database analysis, Master Equipment List updates, and generating service requests to resolve facility issues.
  • Participating fully in 325RPL Readiness activities.
  • Qualifying as a member of the Building Emergency Response Organization.
  • Managing complex tasks related to day-to-day operations and facility maintenance independently.
  • Handling tight timeframes and high-visibility activities effectively.
  • Delivering exceptional service with strong interpersonal skills and team management capabilities.
  • Applying technical knowledge to interpret drawings, schematics, and work control practices, while understanding routine facility hazards.
