About The Position

As a Principal Network Systems Engineer, will serve as a member of the AGN Systems Engineering and Architecture Team, sharing responsibility for leading and engaging in the architecture, evaluation and standardization of emerging network communication technologies, products and solutions in support of the ARINC Global Network (AGN). This role will collaborate with other engineering team members and the AGN business unit to set the current state and future direction of the technological landscape for the AGN. You will be responsible for delivering conceptual designs and technical architectures suited to a variety of product, customer and market needs. The ARINC GLOBAL Network (AGN) System is comprised of several private data centers and connects to the far reaches of the globe, in almost every country providing aviation, airport, government, and transportation connectivity. AGN provides private networking in a highly reliable, secure and available world-wide network architecture for Collins Aerospace, CAS's Mission Critical Aviation, Transportation, and Airports Customers. The Principal Network Systems Engineer will be acknowledged as a thought leader within CAS business unit and broader Collins Aerospace business, credible and comfortable when engaging with executive leadership of both a technical and non-technical disposition.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience
  • Must have experience in systems engineering and solutions through all phases of the SDLC life cycle
  • Must have experience with designing large-scale network architectures involving multiple servers, interfaces, networks, and databases.
  • Must have experience with data network technologies (OSPF, BGP, IGRP, EIGRP, VPC, HSRP/VRRP, MPLS, P2P VPN, VAN, Trunking, QoS)

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience with emerging technologies such as Software Defined Networking, Network Function Virtualization, Automation and Orchestration, Hybrid Clouds, Intent Based Networking, Segmentation, Internet of Things and Edge Intelligence
  • Experience with network capacity and network performance management applications
  • Experience providing solutions and implementing infrastructures requiring 100% availability, near zero latency, low jitter and response times.
  • Active CCIE or equivalent advanced network certification highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technology lead on major projects and programs that contain moderate to highly complex environments, leading, and collaborating with, other members of the Collins Engineering team in the development of technical architecture proposals.
  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert for contemporary data network architectures and solutions, analyzing and recommending contemporary and emerging technologies for deployment across the global network system architecture that may be applicable in addressing emerging product and market needs, taking into consideration the wider business context, risks, opportunities and constraints.
  • Develop and implement project plans within budgetary, schedule and resource constraints.
  • Capture, analyze, decompose and create requirements for systems, products and subsystems of moderate to high complexity.
  • Use an interdisciplinary approach, focusing on customer needs and business requirements, to design, develop, document, test and maintain systems ranging from the straightforward to highly complex.
  • Devise technical product roadmaps depicting the steps anticipated to migrate from the current state to the targeted future state.
  • Deliver cost efficiencies by migrating the product portfolio over time towards a common target architecture where it makes sense to do so.
  • Ensure that design and development work undertaken by others within the Engineering team is aligned to the approved technical architecture for a given project/program.
  • Author, review and maintain documentation during all phases of the system design life cycle as appropriate and specified within documented process and procedure (Project Plans, Estimates, Requirements Documentation, Operational Scenarios, Design Documentation and Drawings, Sys Acceptance Test Plans, etc…).
  • Participate in and influence industry bodies and standards groups to align with Collins Aerospace's interests and proactively share the information and intelligence derived from these with both the engineering team and the wider organization.
  • Articulate ideas in both business and technical terms (both verbal and written) according to the audience, securing and sustaining their buy in.
