About The Position

The Middle School Principal is responsible for directing and supervising all activities of the school to develop and maintain the best possible educational program. This role involves collaboration with the high school principal, overseeing curriculum development, maintaining student discipline, and ensuring the continuous improvement of the instructional staff.

Requirements

  • Valid Georgia certification in administration and supervision.
  • At least three years successful experience in teaching, administrative, and/or supervisory fields.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Develops the master schedule and curriculum revisions for grades 6-8.
  • Coordinates with the high school principal the schedules of shared staff members.
  • Coordinates with the high school principal middle school events on the school campus.
  • Assists the high school principal in the supervision of summer school operations for grades 6-8 within limits of contract.
  • Assists and coordinates with the high school principal facility matters and operations that affect the middle school.
  • Makes recommendations for hiring and termination of middle school personnel.
  • Initiates, designs, and implements programs to meet specific needs of the middle school.
  • Establishes guidelines for proper student conduct and maintains student discipline.
  • Provides continuous leadership in evaluation and improvement of curriculum.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of the middle school program and assures that all school staff members are performing their assigned roles.
  • Facilitates professional improvement of the instructional staff.
  • Keeps superintendent informed of the status of the middle school program.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the superintendent.
  • Notifies the superintendent in advance and coordinates with the high school principal, when it is necessary for him/her to be absent from school.
  • Keeps abreast of improvement in education by regular attendance at professional meetings, in-service meetings, or professional organizational meetings.
  • Advises and cooperates with shared services and other supporting service personnel.
  • Establishes and maintains favorable relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and to solicit support for overall school objectives and programs.
  • Interprets board policies and administrative directives, and discusses and resolves individual student problems.
  • Orients newly assigned middle school staff members and assists in their development as appropriate.
  • Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists and other paperwork required or appropriate to the school's administration.
  • Prepares and submits the middle school's budgetary requests, and monitors expenditures of funds.
  • Coordinates with the high school principal budget accounts that affect both schools.
  • Conducts staff meetings to keep personnel informed of policy changes, new programs, and the like.
  • Conducts staff evaluations for middle school personnel.
  • Schedules and conducts meetings of the middle school's School Council.
  • Maintains a systematic and efficient accounting system for all funds within his/her school in accordance with system and state regulations.
