Oracle’s Cloud Infrastructure team is building services that operate at high scale in a broadly distributed multi-tenant cloud environment. Our customers run their businesses on our cloud, and our mission is to provide them with best-in-class compute, storage, networking, database, security, and an ever-expanding set of foundational cloud-based services. We’re looking for hands-on engineers with expertise and passion in solving difficult problems in distributed systems and highly available services. An engineer at any level can have significant technical and business impact. As a Principal Member of Technical Staff you will lead the software design and development for major components of Oracle’s Cloud Infrastructure. You should be both a rock solid coder and a lead level engineer, able to dive deep into any part of the stack and low level systems, as well as design broad distributed system interactions. You should value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment, and be excited to learn. About You You work backward, starting from the user. You care about creating usable, useful software that solves real problems and brings delight to users. You have solid communication skills. You can clearly explain complex technical concepts. You work well with non-engineers. You can lead a conversation in a room with designers, engineers, and product managers. You are comfortable with ambiguity. You have a strong sense of ownership, and are able to drive development of new projects and features to completion. You are comfortable working at all levels of the stack. This position is expected to be onsite full time in Nashville, TN. This is not a remote position.

  • Develop and troubleshoot large scalable distributed systems written in C and C++ on Linux platforms.
  • Distributed systems design.

  • Experience delivering and operating large scale, highly available distributed systems.

  • Working familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP) and standard network architectures.
  • Building software solutions in an engineering environment using C, C++, Python, Java, Shell Scripting, and JavaScript.
  • RDBMS such as MySQL, PostgreSQL or NoSQL databases
  • Object oriented design and object oriented programming.
  • Agile or Scrum methodologies.
  • Microservices hosted in leading cloud environments, AWS, Azure or GCP.
  • Containerized applications, Docker, Kubernetes or similar application.

  • Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
