About The Position

We are seeking a forward‑thinking Principal Member of Technical Staff (PMTS) to join our Service Design & Architecture organization. This role is ideal for a seasoned technical leader who combines deep engineering expertise with strategic vision. You will work across Product Management, Technology, and Alliance Partner teams to shape innovative solutions, guide long‑term technology strategy, and ensure new services are technically sound and aligned to market needs. As a senior technical expert, you will influence executive decisions, lead high‑impact projects, mentor others, and help drive our 3–5‑year roadmap—particularly in areas such as APIs, AI, cloud networking, SD‑WAN, and next-generation access technologies.

Requirements

  • Technical Expertise
  • Deep knowledge of Layer 1–7 technologies, including: Fiber, Ethernet (VLAN/VXLAN), 5G, LTE, MPLS TCP/IP, QUIC, UDP, IPsec, WireGuard, routed protocols (BGP, OSPF, etc.)
  • SD‑WAN architectures, policies, and security
  • Application gateways, firewalls, SBCs, API frameworks
  • Strong background in cloud connectivity (AWS, Azure, GCP) and data center fabrics (Equinix, Digital Realty).
  • Experience designing metro/long-haul connectivity, ROADM, VPLS/EVPN, VXLAN, Segment Routing, and MPLS architectures.
  • Proficiency with Network Function Virtualization (NFV), including platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP, Dell, Red Hat, KVM, VMware ESXi, Hyper‑V, and others.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with AT&T network services (ASE/ASEoD, Wavelength, Direct Internet, VPN, Business Fiber, SD‑WAN, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert across Layers 1–7, providing guidance on architecture, design, and emerging technologies.
  • Lead the development of scalable, secure, and innovative technical solutions.
  • Support CI/CD processes for complex design and engineering initiatives.
  • Influence strategic decisions by advising senior leadership and cross‑functional partners.
  • Drive R&D efforts related to new technologies, architectures, and capabilities.
  • Evaluate market trends and integrate emerging technologies into future service designs.
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Alliance Partners, and internal organizations to ensure feasibility and alignment with business goals.
  • Lead complex, cross‑functional initiatives from concept through implementation.
  • Communicate technical concepts and project progress clearly to diverse stakeholders.
  • Partner with vendors and internal teams to deliver complete end-to-end solutions and certification requirements.
  • Provide advanced technical support for Product Management, account teams, and customers.
  • Act as a liaison across organizations to validate service architectures and identify new revenue opportunities.
