We are looking for you to join our team as a Principal Mechanical Engineer based out of Linthicum, MD. Combat Sensors Hardware Engineering is seeking a self-motivated, experienced mechanical design engineer to support Receiver-Exciter, Processor and Wired Chassis program production efforts. Candidate must possess strong critical-thinking, communication and leadership skills to quickly and efficiently address various mechanical related issues and problems that occur. Candidate must also be able to organize, task and lead a team of supporting engineers through the various design and troubleshooting efforts that occur within the program. Frequent interaction with program management and functional leadership is expected and required with this position. Candidate should be able to provide detailed, clear and concise status reports and relevant information as required to program leadership. Candidate is expected to work closely with outside suppliers to develop solutions and process efficiencies related to program hardware. This position description does not represent a current opening but may be used to identify candidates with skills and experience for positions within Northrop Grumman that frequently become available. Candidates who express an interest may be considered for future positions at Northrop Grumman. This position is contingent upon the ability to obtain/ maintain an active DoD Secret Clearance or the transfer of an Active DoD Secret Clearance and SAP clearance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with 5 years of experience, master's degree with 3 years of experience, Ph.D. with 1 years of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or related technical fields; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • A current/active DoD Secret clearance
  • Ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP)
  • The ability to work 100% onsite with the ability to travel 10-25% to various suppliers
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and practices and the ability to work independently
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software, especially NX: Demonstrated experience and expertise in using 3D CAD tools, focusing on NX software for detailed mechanical designs.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials.
  • Knowledge and experience in Bill of Material (BoM) management and/or part management software suites (ISE, MPLM)
  • Innovative thinking to improve processes and designs and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise during the manufacturing process.
  • Ability to coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure program success.
  • Strong leadership skills to guide and mentor junior engineers.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in mechanical design, including designing components and systems, interpreting technical drawings, and ensuring compliance with specifications and standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address technical challenges and develop innovative solutions from the subcomponent level to the final customer installation phase.
  • Effective communication skills to liaise with cross-functional teams, present technical designs and solutions, and manage projects efficiently from conception to completion.
