The Raytheon Hardware Engineering Organization leads the hardware design, development and production support of a wide breadth of air, land, sea, and space systems. The Hardware Engineering team strives to be the premier organization for mechanical design and development through our world class people and technology - creating trusted, innovative solutions to make the world a safer place. Hardware Engineering’s capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation. Within the Hardware Engineering Organization, the Undersea & Electronics Systems (UES) Department leads the mechanical design, development, and integration of products, including but not limited to undersea sensors and analysis, naval platforms, shipboard/ground-based processing and power equipment, and launchers. The UES department is looking for a full-time Principal Mechanical Engineer with experience in structural acoustics. This role will be on-site and located in Mystic, CT.

Requirements

  • Typically requires an advanced degree in Physics or Engineering and a minimum of 8 years of prior experience in the field of structural acoustics unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
  • Experience with naval platforms or undersea systems
  • Proficiency and extensive experience in numerical modeling methods for vibro-acoustics, e.g., finite element analysis and statistical energy analysis.
  • Proficiency with Matlab
  • Experience with working as a customer interface and across disciplines
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in Engineering or Physics.
  • Strong theoretical background in structural acoustics of Navy submarine and surface ship platforms.
  • Experience conducting land-based airborne noise and structureborne noise testing in accordance with applicable MIL-STDs.
  • Experience conducting underwater shock simulations.
  • Experience designing and performing assessments of underwater transducers and arrays.
  • Experience supporting or leading multi-organizational S&T / R&D programs.
  • Experience designing and performing assessments of noise control solutions.
  • Experience writing technical proposals and supporting new business capture.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage execution and prioritization of multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong communication skillset with ability to articulate, in both oral and written form, to technical, non-technical and management audiences

Responsibilities

  • Work with a small, specialized team of engineers operating in a respectful, collaborative, and productive work environment.
  • Work environment is primarily in the office but may include occasional travel and working in labs and / or government test facilities.
  • Execute a broad spectrum of technical studies in the field of structural acoustics encompassing the development of analytical and numerical models, interpreting model results, and resolving differences between model predictions and experiments.
  • Leverage findings and insights to advance the state-of-the-art.
  • Collaborate with multi-organizational teams including external customers focused on developing solutions for emerging technologies.
  • Support business development efforts and identify new growth areas.
