The Principal Manager of Transmission and Substation Project Development at Southern California Edison (SCE) is responsible for leading a technical team to develop innovative project solutions for electric transmission and substation grid needs. This role focuses on reliability improvement, infrastructure replacement, renewable generation, load interconnections, and system load growth. The manager will oversee project scoping, licensing support, and coordination for large-scale projects, serving as the accountable project sponsor.

  • Leads efforts to drive innovative grid policy, architecture, and technology roadmap development and implementation under aggressive deadlines.
  • Responsible for annual strategies for approximately $1 billion.
  • Reviews and approves large impactful engineering processes and standards to ensure efficiency and quality.
  • Documents goals, communicates direction, and delegates initiatives for engineering projects.
  • Prepares testimony and may be a witness in GRC proceedings on behalf of SCE.
  • Leads the development and execution of long-term strategic plans for the engineering department.
  • Develops and maintains KPIs to measure and track engineering department performance and project success.
  • Ensures appropriate support is provided to the implementation of engineering standards, procedures, and best practices.
  • Develops and manages the engineering department budget, ensuring effective resource allocation.
  • Seven or more years of experience supervising a team of direct reports and/or project management.
  • Experience performing engineering work in operations, production, construction, or maintenance environments.
  • Must possess an Engineering degree.
  • Experience collaborating with regional transmission organizations (e.g., CAISO, ERCOT) and regulatory agencies (e.g., FERC, NERC).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification.
  • 6 to 8 years of experience in the utility industry, focusing on transmission planning, grid interconnection, and power system infrastructure.
  • Experience in transmission network modeling, load flow analysis, and reliability assessments.
  • Experience with renewable integration, energy storage, and emerging grid technologies.
  • Experience in project management, including strategic planning, budgeting, and execution of large-scale projects.
  • Knowledge of RFPs, cost estimation, and contract negotiations.
  • Experience managing regulatory processes, such as FERC Order 1000.
