About The Position

Global Placement Firm is proud to partner with a top-tier organization in San Antonio, TX , seeking a highly skilled Principal Investigator Archaeologist . This role is ideal for professionals with expertise in CRM, historic and prehistoric archaeology, and project leadership , looking to make a significant impact on cultural resource management projects in Texas and surrounding states. The Principal Investigator Archaeologist is responsible for scheduling and managing small to medium projects, co-managing large projects, and serving as the field lead for Phase I-III archaeological fieldwork . The role involves conducting research, analyzing artifacts, overseeing field and lab operations, and preparing portions of archaeological reports under the guidance of a Senior Archaeologist or Section Head. This position offers opportunities for career growth and to contribute to expanding the organizations cultural resources group in Texas.

Requirements

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word and Excel
  • Leadership experience supervising Phase I-III fieldwork
  • Experience working with Federal Agencies and Tribal Nations
  • Ability to provide professional references and a writing sample (thesis, dissertation, or archaeological report).
  • Education: Masters Degree in Anthropology or closely related field.
  • Meets Secretary of the Interiors Qualification Standards for Archaeologists
  • Experience: 5+ years in CRM archaeology, with at least 3 years in leadership roles.
  • Familiarity with Section 106 of the National Heritage Preservation Act and the Antiquities Code of Texas
  • Ability to obtain a Texas Antiquities Permit
  • Regional experience in Texas, Oklahoma, or Louisiana.
  • Valid drivers license required.

Nice To Haves

  • Registered Professional Archaeologist (or ability to become registered).
  • Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcGISPro, Field Maps, Google Earth, ArcMap , or other GIS programs.
  • Significant lab and curation experience.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct fieldwork and identify artifacts; determine the presence of archaeological sites.
  • Collect data and samples during investigations.
  • Analyze historic and prehistoric artifacts and features.
  • Document methodologies and findings of archaeological research.
  • Review and write portions of archaeological reports; prepare site forms.
  • Assist in project decisions regarding alternatives and resolution of adverse effects.
  • Collaborate with technical staff, lab staff, managers, and administrative personnel to ensure project quality.
  • Support business development through proposals, budgets, and other materials.
