The Principal, Insurance Placement & ICP Relations Partner is an expert‑level individual contributor responsible for shaping and advancing The Baldwin Group’s national placement strategy and optimizing relationships with Insurance Company Partners (ICPs). Requirements

  • Recognized expert‑level understanding of commercial underwriting, placement strategy, carrier operations, incentive structures, and market trends.
  • Ability to develop and implement new processes, standards, and operational plans that materially influence functional outcomes.
  • Ability to utilize AI tools to drive efficiencies, reduce low value placement related tasks and reduce E&O exposure.
  • Executive‑caliber communication, negotiation, and relationship‑management skills; able to influence underwriters, producers, and senior leaders.
  • Advanced analytical expertise, including ability to translate data into insights and strategic recommendations.
  • Proven ability to lead high‑complexity initiatives, manage long‑range workstreams, and operate with substantial autonomy.
  • Skilled in coaching, mentoring, and elevating the work quality of less‑experienced placement professionals.
  • Proficiency with agency management systems, underwriting platforms, and collaboration tools (e.g., Applied Epic).
  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in insurance brokerage or carrier underwriting, preferably in placement, market relations, or underwriting strategy.
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating and managing PIAs, contingencies, overrides, and carrier incentive agreements.
  • Active Property & Casualty license required (Life & Health a plus).
  • Successful track record in mid‑to‑large market placements and in high‑growth, fast‑paced environments.
  • Experience leading complex projects, influencing cross‑functional decisions, and communicating with executive audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a national Placement Ambassador, ensuring consistent execution of placement standards, data discipline, and the enterprise go‑to‑market strategy across regions.
  • Develop, refine, and implement complex operational plans, including national submission standards, placement best practices, and carrier engagement models.
  • Cultivate high‑value relationships with national and regional carrier leaders, influencing underwriting approaches, escalation pathways, and partnership outcomes.
  • Lead the creation of executive‑ready ILF materials, presenting strategic insights and guidance to senior leadership and supporting data‑driven decision‑making.
  • Own end‑to‑end development of high‑quality submissions, including underwriting narratives, SOVs, loss runs, and supporting documentation; ensure alignment to carrier appetites and underwriting strategy.
  • Analyze placement performance, market dynamics, and carrier behavior to recommend strategic adjustments that improve hit ratios, speed‑to‑bind, and financial outcomes.
  • Manage and optimize incentive programs, including PIAs, contingency structures, overrides, and carrier‑specific compensation opportunities; identify revenue risks and opportunities.
  • Provide expert‑level guidance to producers and placement colleagues, offering insights on carrier appetite, market strategy, file readiness, incentives, and submission excellence.
  • Lead large, enterprise‑wide or cross‑functional initiatives with minimal oversight, coordinating with analytics teams, placement professionals, producers, and carriers.
  • Coach and review work from lower‑level professionals, elevating submission quality, documentation standards, and adherence to placement protocols.
  • Address complex, ambiguous challenges requiring advanced judgment, creative problem‑solving, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders across functions.
  • Develop enterprise recommendations and insights that influence long‑range placement strategy, carrier partnerships, and enterprise operational plans.
