The Infrastructure Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud environments that support the organization’s business objectives. This role serves as the technical authority for cloud infrastructure strategy, ensuring alignment between technology solutions and enterprise architecture standards. The architect collaborates with cross-functional teams, including DevOps, security, networking, and application development, to optimize cloud performance, reliability, and governance. This leadership position requires advanced technical expertise and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including clinical subject matter experts and engineers with deep domain knowledge in telemetry monitoring and related technologies. The Infrastructure Architect is expected to independently resolve the majority of technical inquiries (approximately 90%) and provide technical oversight and mentoring to junior engineers. Participation in a scheduled on-call rotation and after-hours support is required. The role also entails ensuring full compliance with company policies, procedures, and operational standards at all times.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience; additional combination of relevant experience and education may be substituted.
  • 12+ years’ relevant DevOps / SRE experience required.
  • 4+ years with Java Application Server-based development, including SpringBoot, JBoss, J2EE, design patterns, and/or IOC.
  • Familiarity with Software management, development, and build frameworks, including Jenkins, Maven, Git/SVN, GitHub, and common IDEs.
  • Has worked in an Agile Development environment using tools like JIRA, Confluence, been a member of Scrum teams, etc.
  • Proficient in Terraform, Puppet, or Chef for automation and configuration preferred.
  • Experience in the deployment of complex high-availability applications.
  • Strong experience with Linux-based infrastructures, Linux/Unix administration, and AWS.
  • Able to work, influence, and lead in a highly cross-functional team environment.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, for both internal and external audiences, at all levels.
  • Takes a logical, analytical approach to problem solving and pays close attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented.
  • Demonstrates strong focus on quality delivery and delighting customers; holds self to high standards of delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement infrastructure solutions (AWS, GCP, and on-site) that meet business, security, and performance requirements.
  • Develop and enforce cloud governance frameworks covering cost management, resource tagging, identity and access control, and data protection policies.
  • Implement cost governance strategies such as budget alerts, right-sizing, and reserved instance planning.
  • Establish guardrails, compliance checks, and automated controls using tools such as AWS Config.
  • Develop architecture blueprints, standards, and best practices for cloud deployments.
  • Achieve and maintain compliance with relevant frameworks (e.g., SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA).
  • Collaborate with DevOps teams to automate infrastructure provisioning and deployments using IaC (Infrastructure as Code) tools.
  • Complies with Spacelabs QMS, especially as it relates to Design Controls.
  • Work closely with subject matter experts to interpret requirements and translate them into software solutions.
  • Provide technical mentorship to engineers and contribute to cloud competency development across the organization.
  • Provide visibility into business and systems performance metrics, in support of capacity planning and business reports.
  • Coordinates in the definition of processes and standards related to production functions.
  • Coordinates in the research and troubleshooting of production issues.
  • Coordinates in the planning and execution of strategic architecture changes.
  • Stays current on and evaluates the potential use of new technologies in production.
  • Develop technical skills through internal training, on-the-job training, and external training where appropriate.
