We’re seeking a Principal Financial Analyst to act as a thought-leader, analytical partner, and insight creator within our Card External Planning & Analysis team. Through innovation and analytical rigor, our team tackles high-leverage problems facing Card’s leaders and drives insights that propel Capital One’s Card business forward. Within this team, our analytical efforts are centralized around three primary pillars: Analysis and benchmarking of the Credit Card industry against our own Card performance through various volume and financial growth metrics, customer segmentations, and access to public/private data Exploring and translating the various macroeconomic / industry trends driving consumer preferences into tangible and measurable headwinds and tailwinds on our Card business Driving innovation and insights through centralized portfolio analytics, deep-dives into Consumer Portfolio health, and strategic requests supporting high-impact presentations to Card leaders, the President of Card, and our Board of directors. You will partner heavily with various teams across Card (i.e. Card Finance, Business Lines, Corporate Strategy, CRM, etc.) to solve important business problems that will ultimately drive value to the company. You will be encouraged to drive insights, take risks, and seek out new responsibilities to create leverage for the team. We work to drive efficiencies, collaboration, innovation and outsized value across the Card organization through the various lenses we maintain as hybrid analysts (BA, DA, FA, Strategy, etc.) in our analysis and storytelling. On this team, you’ll have the opportunity to grow and develop your understanding of our Card business through analysis and access to data that you likely wouldn’t see in other financial analyst roles. Because we partner heavily with senior Card leaders to solve complex problems, strong influence, strategic analytical thinking and storytelling skills are a must.   • Strategic leadership: Partner with senior leaders to address high-leverage, high-visibility challenges throughout our Card business. Develop insights that will drive growth, profitability, and competitive success for Capital One in the face of shifting consumer and regulatory demands.
  • Storytelling: Present to senior management on learnings, opportunities, and proposed solutions. Leverage analytical storytelling skills to influence at the highest levels.
  • Analysis : Identify business challenges and opportunities for improvement and solve for them using analysis to make strategic or tactical recommendations
  • Partnership : Work closely with partners across Card to understand and address challenges across tech, credit, operations, and more.
  • Teamwork: Invest in the development of peer analysts in your org, helping them to develop as storytellers, analysts, and business leaders.
  • Strategic & analytic orientation: A strong track record of decision making and problem solving based on analytics. Conceptual thinking skills must be complemented by a strong quantitative orientation, given that a large part of the business is based on rigorous analytic marketing & credit risk management.
  • Strong business judgment, leadership and integrity: This individual should be a tenacious decision maker, able to bring a healthy, aggressive, yet responsible approach to business.
  • Influence: Ability to build and leverage the capabilities of a high-performing team, as well as business partners across the enterprise. He/she should foster innovation, drive critical decisions, hold business partners accountable, and be able to consistently deliver results.
  • Strong executive communication skills: Impeccable written and oral communication credentials, coupled with strategic influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement through intellect, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Clear results orientation: display an intense focus on achieving both short and long term goals. He/she should be able to drive and execute an agenda in an uncertain and fluid environment
  • Strong technical and data skills : A good understanding of Card database infrastructure and prior coding background (i.e. SQL, etc.)
  • Strong Financial background : Prior experience in FP&A roles is preferable
  • Successful track record of thriving in a fast paced, entrepreneurial and dynamic environment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or military experience
  • At least 4 years of experience in Financial Analysis
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a quantitative major (Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering)
  • Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA), Accounting, Finance, or Economics
  • Certified Treasury Professional or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) license or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or CFM
  • 5+ years of experience in financial analysis and financial modeling
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • 3+ years of experience using SQL, Python, or a combination
  • 3+ years of experience in financial services, banking or technology industries
  • 3+ years of experience partnering with senior leaders and internal stakeholders
  • Prior card knowledge and experience is a plus
