Job Summary: The Principal Environmental Scientist provides advanced technical expertise and leadership for federal environmental projects, with emphasis on soil and groundwater remediation under CERLA and RCRA programs. This position plays a critical role in designing, managing, and implementing complex remediation projects for federal clients including U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, or related field.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in environmental consulting, hydrogeology, and soil/groundwater remediation.
- 8+ years experience with federal contracting including USACE.
- Professional Geologist (PG) required.
- Demonstrated success in performance-based cleanup projects.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to gain access to military installations.
- Deep technical understanding of subsurface environments and remedial action technology.
- Proficient in evaluating complex sites with multiple contaminant plumes and recommending effective solutions.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills, with ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Strong knowledge of USACE reporting standards, safety programs, and project management processes.
- Strong technical writing and communication skill.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable representing ESC to clients and regulatory agencies.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. of equipment.
- Ability to walk, hike, and work in outdoor environments, including rugged or uneven terrain, for extended periods.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions (rain, heat, cold).
- Ability to work long shifts during field mobilizations.

- 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
- Proficiency in GIS, data visualization and environmental modeling software.
Responsibilities
- Serve as technical lead on federal environmental remediation projects involving soil and groundwater contamination.
- Develop and implement investigation and cleanup strategies, including sample plans, contaminant delineation, and remedial action design.
- Interpret complex environmental data and develop scientifically sound conclusions, recommendations, and clean up strategies.
- Ensure compliance with CERCLA, RCRA, and related USACE and federal regulatory frameworks.
- Prepare and review technical reports, work plans, and proposals.
- Support proposal and pricing development with technical knowledge.
- Serve as client contact for technical discussions, participate in site visits and client meetings.
- Collaborate closely with project managers to ensure deliverables, budgets and performance goals are met.
- Manage environmental staff.
