Job Summary: The Principal Environmental Scientist provides advanced technical expertise and leadership for federal environmental projects, with emphasis on soil and groundwater remediation under CERLA and RCRA programs. This position plays a critical role in designing, managing, and implementing complex remediation projects for federal clients including U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, or related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in environmental consulting, hydrogeology, and soil/groundwater remediation.
  • 8+ years experience with federal contracting including USACE.
  • Professional Geologist (PG) required.
  • Demonstrated success in performance-based cleanup projects.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to gain access to military installations.
  • Deep technical understanding of subsurface environments and remedial action technology.
  • Proficient in evaluating complex sites with multiple contaminant plumes and recommending effective solutions.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, with ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong knowledge of USACE reporting standards, safety programs, and project management processes.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skill.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable representing ESC to clients and regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. of equipment.
  • Ability to walk, hike, and work in outdoor environments, including rugged or uneven terrain, for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions (rain, heat, cold).
  • Ability to work long shifts during field mobilizations.

Nice To Haves

  • 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
  • Proficiency in GIS, data visualization and environmental modeling software.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical lead on federal environmental remediation projects involving soil and groundwater contamination.
  • Develop and implement investigation and cleanup strategies, including sample plans, contaminant delineation, and remedial action design.
  • Interpret complex environmental data and develop scientifically sound conclusions, recommendations, and clean up strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with CERCLA, RCRA, and related USACE and federal regulatory frameworks.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, work plans, and proposals.
  • Support proposal and pricing development with technical knowledge.
  • Serve as client contact for technical discussions, participate in site visits and client meetings.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers to ensure deliverables, budgets and performance goals are met.
  • Manage environmental staff.
