About The Position

The Principal Enterprise Architect for Cloud Platforms reports to the Chief Architect for Core Technology & Infrastructure. This role focuses on developing enablers and patterns to advance cloud migrations and mature cloud platforms. The architect leads the development of enterprise architecture principles, patterns, standards, and practices for Multi-Cloud Hybrid Platforms. They partner with Platform and Product Line Executives, as well as cross-functional teams (Tech Delivery and Operations, Business, Risk, Cyber, Data) and support organizations (HR, finance, etc.), to drive product innovation and optimization, ensuring the delivery of secure, resilient, and consumable application solutions. The position requires applying advanced knowledge of banking technology and IT architecture principles to evaluate technical operations architectures and solutions, leading the selection of methodologies, tools, and components for IT solutions. The architect provides guidance to solution architects on implementing technical operations within complex architectural patterns across multi-platform systems, develops technical operations architecture plans, and reviews cost and feasibility of alternatives to support strategic company needs. They interpret business challenges, recommend best practices for technical operations solutions, and use sophisticated analytical thought to identify innovative solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Top-down technology infrastructure architecture roadmap development and design with focus on enabling software defined infrastructure implementation, provisioning and consumption, along with collaboration with infrastructure and application technology leaders and risk partners to refine and instantiate a hybrid cloud strategy reflecting corporate objectives/strategy and risk appetite.
  • Architect cross-cutting enterprise infrastructure solutions that span across multiple CIOs and domains and across the spectrum of technology infrastructure platforms.
  • Provide thought leadership based on hands-on experience in the development and modernization of technology infrastructure standards enabling modern approaches to technology resiliency.
  • Set, adapt, and instantiate strategic direction for technology infrastructure in alignment with the Business Strategy and Technology standards and provide thought leadership in the development of an enterprise strategic IT plan.
  • Maintain a high level of awareness and understanding of existing and emerging infrastructure technologies, as well as industry and bank issues, to effectively match them.
  • End to end accountability to review and approve design solutions that are fit-for-purpose in meeting the business needs of the enterprise while continuing the evolution of the technology landscape.
  • Lead or "jump start" technology infrastructure initiatives deemed critical to and Truist's technology services.
  • Provide thought leadership in new technology innovation, incubation, introduction, and implementation critical to Truist's technology and business strategy roadmaps and ongoing success.
  • Define and govern the enterprise cloud and application platform architecture strategy for Core Technology Infrastructure, spanning application networking, container platforms, and hybrid cloud enablement across legacy, private, and public cloud environments.
  • Act as a strategic architecture partner to CT&O stakeholders, supporting platform roadmaps, modernization initiatives, and incremental cloud adoption while minimizing disruption and reducing architectural fragmentation across Core Technology Infrastructure.
  • Define and govern application archetypes to prescribe technical choices and enforce enterprise non‑functional requirements, enabling CIO‑led migrations to cloud while standardizing security, resilience, performance, operability, and compliance expectations.
  • Establish clear architectural intent for application networking capabilities, including container networking interfaces, service discovery, reverse proxy patterns (web and API), and Layer‑7 micro‑segmentation—defining purpose, authority, and consumption patterns across CT&O‑owned platforms.
  • Define enterprise standards for policy‑driven application networking and security, including Open Policy Agent (OPA) and service mesh adoption, ensuring consistent enforcement of traffic control, security, and routing across applications and platforms.
  • Ensure application networking architectures support end‑to‑end service connectivity, isolation, and resilience, including multi‑cluster, multi‑region, and hybrid connectivity patterns critical to enterprise and client‑facing services.
  • Define reference architectures and guardrails for service mesh usage, clarifying where service mesh is required, optional, or constrained based on application archetype, performance impact, operational maturity, and regulatory considerations.
  • Provide architectural leadership for application platform infrastructure, ensuring consistency across container platforms, ingress/egress, traffic management, runtime services, and shared Core Technology capabilities.
  • Define and govern the enterprise strategy for private and public cloud platform enablement in partnership with CT&O organizations, including Private Cloud OpenShift and public cloud Kubernetes platforms (AKS and EKS).
  • Define and own cloud foundation architectures for Azure and AWS, including networking, identity, security, landing zones, shared services, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) as a foundational Core Tech requirement.
  • Ensure cloud foundation architectures incorporate FinOps and operational sustainability principles, enabling cost transparency, optimization guardrails, and informed decision‑making for investments.
