About The Position

This role focuses on leading and scaling engineering teams responsible for code hosting and Git infrastructure. You will drive technical strategy, architectural consistency, and high-quality software development while mentoring engineers and influencing cross-team initiatives. The position involves collaborating with product, design, and support teams, addressing critical system challenges, and shaping engineering practices across the organization. You will operate in a highly distributed, asynchronous environment and provide guidance to ensure scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems. The role requires both hands-on technical expertise and strong leadership skills to support engineers, projects, and organizational objectives. Requirements

  • 11+ years of experience in software engineering or related technical discipline, coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python
  • 5+ years of people management experience
  • 6+ years experience troubleshooting across network, application, caching, load-balancing, storage, and distributed services
  • Experience with kernels, networking, compilers, software development tools, databases, HTTP, virtual machines, containers, or security
  • Proven ability to influence engineering practices and mentor teams in a distributed environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for global, asynchronous collaboration

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical strategy and engineering initiatives across Git systems and platform services
  • Establish architectural patterns, best practices, and high-quality coding standards
  • Collaborate with product, design, and cross-functional teams to define priorities and project execution plans
  • Mentor engineers at all levels, providing coaching, code reviews, and professional development
  • Facilitate cross-team problem solving and guide organizational improvements in engineering processes
  • Participate in customer-facing technical discussions to gather feedback and inform system design
  • Support company-wide initiatives and contribute to the long-term engineering vision
