About The Position

As a Principal Engineering Designer in San Diego, CA, you’ll have the opportunity to work alongside a talented, multi-disciplinary team on meaningful, landmark projects that shape the future of the region. As part of our Public Works Department, you’ll help clients and communities bring their visions to life, from designing critical infrastructure to enhancing the spaces where people live, work, and connect. You’ll collaborate with engineers, planners, and project managers across diverse specialties, contributing to high-impact initiatives in transportation, water resources, land development, and civic improvements. Your expertise will guide design teams, mentor junior staff, and ensure that every project reflects technical excellence, sustainability, and innovation. Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE).
• Four (4) years of experience in land development and/or public works design or equivalent work experience of eight (8) years.
• Ability to prepare grading, public improvement plans, water and sewer plans, and drainage and water quality plans.
• Experience in preparing and processing technical studies and site plans for Public Works projects.
• Knowledge of jurisdictional codes, standards, and procedures, preferably in San Diego County.
• AutoCAD/Civil 3D experience required.
• Engineer-in-Training Certificate is required.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineers, planners, and project managers on diverse projects.
• Guide design teams and mentor junior staff.
• Prepare grading, public improvement plans, water and sewer plans, and drainage and water quality plans from conceptual design to final plans.
• Prepare and process technical studies and site plans to obtain entitlements for Public Works projects.
• Prepare specifications and Engineer’s Estimates.
• Ensure projects reflect technical excellence, sustainability, and innovation.
