NextEra Energy Resources’ Engineering & Construction (E&C) division is seeking a Principal Metering Engineer to provide end to end technical leadership and oversight of revenue metering systems supporting renewable energy development, engineering design, and construction execution. This role is specifically focused on meter programming, configuration, testing, and troubleshooting to ensure metering systems meet all technical, contractual, and commercial requirements. The Principal Metering Engineer is accountable for ensuring that all metering related activities align with project specifications and commercial agreements throughout the full project lifecycle—from initial concept and engineering design through construction, commissioning, certification, and turnover. This position will work closely with cross functional internal stakeholders—including engineering disciplines, development, business management, project management, and transmission services—and will also coordinate with external utilities, ISOs/RTOs, metering vendors, and EPC partners as needed. This position entails the interpretation and organization of metering requirements as communicated by customers, commercial operations, and internal stakeholders. The incumbent will collaborate with cross-functional teams to prepare comprehensive technical metering documentation and integrate metering specifications into engineering designs. Core responsibilities encompass the assessment, selection, and application of advanced knowledge in metering concepts and industry best practices across diverse projects. The incumbent will become proficient at programming advanced metering systems. Additionally, the individual may be tasked with supervising external Metering Engineers of Record and overseeing project management activities. Demonstrated proficiency in project management and advanced technical expertise are essential qualifications for this role. This position negotiates critical and controversial issues with top level engineers and officers of other organizations and companies.
