The Principal Engineer - Underground Mine Planning at Rio Tinto is responsible for developing and approving mining development designs that incorporate inputs and constraints from various engineering disciplines including geotechnical engineering, ventilation, geology, operations, and safety. The role involves designing longhole stope drills and blast designs using industry best practices, managing technical work packages, and overseeing critical underground risks related to ventilation. Additionally, the engineer will execute development and production forecasts on a monthly, quarterly, annual, and life of mine basis. The position also includes overseeing surveying activities to ensure precision and quality control in tunneling and stope blasting, leading a diverse team of engineers and technicians, and engaging with internal stakeholders to ensure that underground needs are met. Mentorship and support for team members' professional development goals are also key aspects of this role.
