Senior Engineer – Signal Processing

Foresite Labs (Stealth Co)San Diego, CA
3d$260,000 - $270,000

About The Position

We are seeking a Principal Engineer – Signal Processing to lead our efforts in creating a high-throughput, optimized bioinformatic signal pipeline. You will use your background in image processing, signal processing, discrete data transmission and communication theory to create a pipeline that extracts the maximum possible amount of information from our dense and noisy biological assays. You will design and deploy a data pipeline that uses adaptive filtering, physics-based modeling, decision-based feedback, and other techniques borrowed from telecommunication theory to process the high-throughput stream of data generated by our instruments. Although the underlying physical systems may be new to you, the math will not and you will adapt familiar concepts such as signal-to-noise ratio and maximum-likelihood detection to develop novel algorithms addressing unique challenges. The ideal candidate is eager to take their experience in signal processing and apply it to decoding signals from complex biological systems that will advance our mission to radically improve healthcare.

Requirements

  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Bioinformatics, or related field.
  • MS and 13+ years or PhD and 10+ years of experience in digital or analog signal processing, image analysis, communications, physical layer algorithm development or comparable field.
  • Deep understanding of signal processing, digital communication, and optimal system design.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, C++ or similar language and hig performance computing frameworks.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with machine learning techniques for image processing, channel optimization, or related areas.
  • Experience with GPU-accelerated computation (CUDA, RAPIDS, etc.)
  • Experience in cross-functional collaboration with engineering, chemistry and biochemistry teams.
  • Record of innovation through publications, patents or open-source contributions.

Responsibilities

  • Architect a data processing pipeline that transforms biological signals into discrete data sources for downstream processing.
  • Develop novel algorithms and implement proven algorithms in novel ways to optimize throughput and quality of biological detection systems.
  • Define metrics and diagnostics for the hardware and chemistry teams that allow them to optimize workflow and instrumentation to achieve the highest possible data quality.
  • Define metrics and diagnostics for the bioinformatics team that allow them to optimize performance of downstream assays and applications.
  • Create a modeling and analysis framework to predict future performance and identify key parameters limiting potential data quality. Work with chemistry and hardware teams to prioritize experiments that will guide the system to its theoretical limits.
  • Contribute to the design of future hardware and assays that reach beyond current capabilities to deliver truly groundbreaking results.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and equity package, comprehensive benefits, and flexibility to support work-life integration.
  • We are an equal opportunity employer. We thrive on diversity and collaboration.
