About The Position

The Principal Engineer is responsible for supporting the Sr. Principal Engineer with product safety and regulatory matters. This includes the support of official safety-related investigations for Automotive and Motorcycle products to ensure Honda's regulatory compliance, reporting and on-time submissions. Conduct data analysis of market quality within Honda and the industry and report results to the department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • 7 years of product technical experience.
  • 3 years of experience in product safety or regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent ability to understand complex safety issues and technologies and explain situations in a simple way.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills to evaluate potential safety and compliance issues.
  • Experience with quality analysis and defect/root cause investigation.
  • Ability to quickly develop knowledge base and effectively engage in technical and regulatory discussions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with good leadership potential to support Sr. Principal Engineers and guide Quality Engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Support responses to official product safety investigations, including defect and non-compliance investigations.
  • Clarify supplied engineering documents for agency appropriateness and ensure US and/or Japan Market Quality investigations/results are clear and easy to understand.
  • Support schedules and deadlines to manage appropriate submissions on-time.
  • Coordinate with internal, cross-functional teams to promote regulatory positioning of product issues and investigations.
  • Support Sr. Principal Engineer in ensuring Market Quality testing scope reflects agency expectations and customer viewpoints.
  • Support Sr. Principal Engineer responses to agency's quarterly meeting agenda items and special investigation requests.
  • Conduct data analysis of Market Quality data including NHTSA Vehicle Owner Questionnaire (VOQ) to find trends and identify market issues.
  • Monitor agency attention items with Honda and other OEM data.
  • Inform Sr. Principal Engineer and escalate areas of concern where necessary.
  • Stay current on FMVSS and assist with SED consultation and interpretation.
