About The Position

As a Principal Engineer with the Order Sourcing & Carrier Optimization Team, you will lead the technical development and operations for the company's Order fulfillment platform. This role is critical for cross-product technical leadership and strategic. This role challenges the status quo to help engineering leads to think outside of old ways of doing things and drives architecture and design standards across multiple products, delivering large, business-critical capabilities from ideation to production. Collaborate with peer organizations, product, data science in defining multi-year technology strategies, and designing flexible, agnostic architectures that anticipate future needs. They lead sweeping improvements in stability, performance, and scalability, acting as a technical multiplier, they reduce complexity, mentor engineers across teams, and influence broad architectural decisions—not only within Order Sourcing but across the Supply Chain domain—to keep the organization ahead of the curve. This role is hybrid, which means you will work some days on site at a Best Buy location and some days virtually from home or other non-Best Buy location. The specific work arrangements vary by role and team. The recruiter or hiring manager will provide more details during the hiring process. For this role, you must be located within a drivable distance to our office in Richfield, Minnesota.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of relevant experience in engineering
  • 5+ or more years of professional full-stack software development experience on modern web technologies and frameworks (React, Node, Java, Kotlin, Spring etc) as well as Object Oriented Software solutions
  • Strong understanding of building custom systems, cloud environments (AWS) and architecture design in large environments

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field OR equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • 9+ years of relevant professional experience in engineering
  • 2 years experience managing and leading engineering teams
  • 5 years experience with engineering custom solutions using modern languages, cloud technologies and SDLC practices and tools.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and modern software development practices including Scrum and Kanban
  • Experience working in retail, supply chain, or similar technologies and related areas

  • Partner with product management and stakeholders to define a forward‑looking technical vision and roadmap.
  • Apply deep full‑stack expertise across modern web technologies and cloud platforms to guide architectural decisions.
  • Ensure high standards of quality, performance, reliability, and secure integration of vendor technologies across all systems.
  • Lead, mentor, and support engineers while fostering a collaborative, innovative, and growth‑oriented team culture.
  • Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, providing technical guidance, evaluating tools and frameworks, and driving on‑time delivery.
