The Mechanical Engineering Organization seeks Principal Engineer Modeling and Simulation at the Chandler, AZ facility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 5 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master's degree in STEM with 3 years of related engineering experience, or a PhD in STEM with 1 year of related engineering experience.
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance.
  • In-depth knowledge of vibration theory, structural dynamics, rigid body dynamics, and finite element methods.
  • Proficiency in FEA software, preferably NASTRAN or ABAQUS.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB or Python.
  • Ability to apply fundamental analytical techniques and prepare written analyses.

Nice To Haves

  • Active DoD Secret security clearance, or higher.
  • Bachelors or Master's in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Proficiency in FEA software, preferably NASTRAN, Hyperworks.
  • Previous experience with launch vehicle coupled loads analysis (CLA) and Craig-Bampton models.
  • Experience with modal test, modal analysis, or explicit dynamics/FEA.
  • Familiarity with Linux.

Responsibilities

  • Develop complex dynamic models of launch vehicles, verify model quality, and determine steady and transient launch vehicle responses during liftoff, ascent, and staging.
  • Perform multi-body kinematics simulations for separation events like fairing deployment, staging, and spacecraft separation.
  • Define scope of task, perform analyses utilizing appropriate classical and computer aided techniques, and prepare results for presentations and analysis reports.
  • Contribute to the success of vital defense systems that protect the nation by supporting cutting-edge development of upcoming long-range missile defense interceptors, targets, space launch, and strike vehicles.
  • Use data from various sources to develop forcing functions for loading events.
  • Recognize need for and develop new methodologies for loads analysis.
