About The Position

This role requires the ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future. Do you have the skills and drive to oversee engineering activities that enhance Spectrum's telecommunications and signal processing hardware, software and electrical systems? As a Principal Engineer I, you will work with technical operations staff on system design and configuration. You will also work with design teams and advise team leaders. As part of Spectrum's engineering team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring reliable service delivery and enhancing customer experiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or related field or related work experience
  • 5+ years engineering work experience
  • 5+ years project management work experience
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Basic knowledge of related industry specifications and standards (IEEE, ANSI, Fiber, Bridging, Switching, Routing, Ethernet and Transport technologies and protocols)
  • Basic knowledge in network design, network architecture, protocols and network topology
  • Basic knowledge in TCP/IP and the OSI Model
  • Basic knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to support the current operations
  • Basic knowledge of network devices, basic network appliances and network designing software, such as Visio
  • Ability to perform duties in a very fast-paced environment and ability to learn new technology quickly
  • Ability to use personal computer and software applications

Nice To Haves

  • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE)
  • Industry and vendor specific certifications and training preferred (Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Spectrum products and services

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, monitor, enhance and troubleshoot systems in assigned areas
  • Analyze and revise existing system logic difficulties and documentation as necessary
  • Test and review system designs
  • Provide engineering technical support and guidance to regional personnel and ensure all technical integration, changes, standards and documentation are met
  • Mentor and guide the work of technical staff
  • Review work plans, design and advise on improvements
  • Adhere to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable
  • Know, understand and follow company policy
