The Principal Engineer - Embedded Systems / Programmable Logic I&C works within the Services I&C Hardware Technology team of the GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH) Engineering organization. The I&C Hardware Technology team is responsible for designing and implementing hardware and programmable logic in embedded I&C systems for Nuclear Power Plant applications. The I&C Hardware Technology team have strong interfaces with I&C software design and plant I&C system teams. This role requires technical problem solving focused on embedded system programmable logic device development/implementation and effective collaboration with other teams within the GVH business functions to deliver on key I&C system customer initiatives.

  • Identify, develop, evaluate, and introduce embedded system programmable logic solutions to meet near term and long-range customer needs in the area of I&C.
  • Provide technical consultation on various next generation I&C technology development programs throughout the business.
  • Lead and provide the key technical direction to large projects with critical business impact.
  • Maintain an active role in developing and defining the state-of-the-art embedded system firmware technology for new product introduction, I&C system upgrades, cost improvements and problem resolution to meet current and future business needs.
  • Support other GE Vernova businesses, internal & external customers, and suppliers as required.
  • Provide technical consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business to drive embedded system programable logic process modernization, resolve design, process, product center, supplier, or field issues.
  • Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation, and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers.
  • Prepare invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company.
  • Provide technical guidance, direction and training to new and experienced hardware/FPGA engineers, specialists, technicians, and co-ops.
  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering Discipline (Computer Programming, Electrical or similar) from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience as a recognized practitioner and subject matter expert (SME) in embedded systems hardware, programable logic system development and implementation.
  • Master's degree or PhD in an engineering or technical discipline preferred.
  • Experience in the nuclear industry or other highly regulated I&C focused industry (i.e. Aerospace).
  • Deep experience in embedded system development, including knowledge of common HDL languages (System Verilog) and PLD/FPGA development tools (Quartus, GitLab, etc.).
  • Experience with the use/application of Coding conventions and guidelines to Software development and for code review.
  • Strong working knowledge and familiarity with IEEE and IEC standards.
  • Knowledge of quality standards and systems (e.g., NQA-1 and ISO 9000).
  • Operating at a senior level within an organization.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communications skills.
