Toyota Financial Services' Data Engineering Department is looking for a passionate and highly-motivated Principal Engineer. The primary responsibility of this role is to lead architecture and design of enterprise-grade data platforms and to act as the senior engineer overseeing the implementation of data platforms to ensure that the architecture and design of those platforms is implemented correctly. Reporting to National Manager, Data Developer Experience, the person in this role will support the Data Engineering department's objective to enable scalable, secure, and high-performance data platforms to support Toyota's digital transformation.

Requirements

Expertise in Kafka, data lake infrastructure, lakehouse architecture
Strong skills in Python, FastAPI, and microservice development
Experience with data warehouses, data modeling, and building data platforms
Proficiency in DBT, Airflow, and custom data transformation utilities
Knowledge of security, compliance, and performance optimization
Experience in financial services or regulated industries

Nice To Haves

AWS Certified Data Analytics, Kafka certifications, Python certifications
Advanced Degree (MS or PhD in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field)
10+ years including technical leadership in data architecture and streaming technologies

Responsibilities

Design and implement data lake and lakehouse architectures for scalable data storage and processing
Architect and develop Python-based microservices using FastAPI for data ingestion and transformation
Design and build data platforms integrating Kafka for real-time streaming and event-driven processing
Develop and implement data processing and transformation tools, including DBT, Airflow, and custom utilities
Mentor other engineers, guide best practices, and collaborate with analysts, engineers, and data scientists to ensure appropriate design and delivery.
Develop data platform non-functional requirements, patterns, and architecture decisions to guide our development teams.
