About The Position

As a Controls Principal Engineer in Vernova R&D organization, you will be involved in the development of new controls concepts and integrating them with next generation GE Vernova products. Your work will include working and leading a team doing control system design, modeling, simulation, testing and deployment of controls systems. You will contribute and lead development of advanced controls concepts as well as their implementation for application to GE Vernova business and government programs. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will lead and contribute to the planning, development, and transition of technologies from concept to products and/or services for GE internal and external clients. You will: Lead diverse teams as well contribute individually at a senior level in the development and application of advanced technology solutions to GE Vernova products and services using modeling, advanced controls, optimization, estimation, and detection technologies. Validate performance of developed solutions through simulations and application on target systems. Document technology and results through patent applications, technical reports, and publications. Transfer technology to engineering teams in GE Vernova to be included in next generation products and services. Stay current with advances in controls technologies to seek out new ideas and applications. Work in a team environment with colleagues across GE Research, GE Vernova, and partners from industry, academia, and government agencies. Participate with multi-disciplinary teams and lead GE Vernova Advanced Research teams in the development of new control technologies and capabilities for GE Vernova's next generation product platforms Innovate in the controls space and lead Intellectual Property development/reviews Effectively communicate results by preparing written reports and making presentations that describe analyses and solutions Connect the organization to the latest technology developments and trends in industry Contribute to proposals for GE businesses as well as government agencies, especially with Department of Defense (Navy)

Requirements

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field with experience developing controls with a minimum of 10 years of experience OR a Masters degree with a minimum of 15 years of experience developing control systems or adjacent technology.
  • Depth and/or breadth of knowledge of advanced controls, optimization, estimation, or detection algorithms.
  • Proficiency in simulation and programming languages like C, C++, or Python.
  • Demonstrated experience (algorithm development and software implementation) in developing systems solutions for complex physical systems (e.g., mechanical systems, chemical plants, power systems, transportation, aviation systems).
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.
  • Must be 18 years or older.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with real-time implementation of control system solutions in a variety of hardware platforms
  • Experience with machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques and the application of those in a controls context
  • Familiarity and experience with Machine Learning and related software concepts
  • Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills
  • Some experience designing and implementing AI algorithms using large datasets to train the algorithms.
  • Experience developing controls solutions for industrial applications
  • Experience with application for government funding and project proposal writing
  • Experience leading teams, which include setting up schedules, milestones, technical reviews, tracking funding, etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership
  • Experience with program management, which includes setting up schedules, milestones, technical reviews, tracking funding, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to take an innovative idea from a concept to a product
  • Department of Defense (DoD) Top Secret security clearance
