About The Position

The job of Principal – Elementary School is done for the purpose/s of developing a vision and mission goals; guiding the instructional programs by serving as the school’s instructional leader; maintaining overall instructional and support operations at assigned elementary school including: receiving, distributing and communicating information to enforce school, district and state policies; maintaining the safety of the school environment; coordinating school activities; communicating information to staff; addressing situations, problems and/or conflicts that could negatively impact the school; and, developing school policies.

  • Master’s Degree in job related area
  • Valid Principal Certificate
  • Job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
  • Must have leadership experience.
  • Knowledge is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.
  • Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws.
  • Skills are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
  • Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: plan and manage projects.
  • Ability is required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment.
  • Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operates equipment using defined methods.
  • Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment.

  • Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
  • Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time.
  • Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.

Responsibilities

  • Develops budgets, programs, class schedules, etc. for the purpose of ensuring that outcomes achieve school, district and/or state objectives.
  • Leads and facilitates successful completion of district goals at the site level.
  • Facilitates communication between personnel, students and/or parents for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems and/or resolving conflicts.
  • Leads and facilitates the continuous improvement plan.
  • Manages school administrative support functions (e.g. facility maintenance, budget, staffing, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining safe and efficient school operations within district guidelines.
  • Monitors extra-curricular school functions for the purpose of ensuring activities are conducted in a positive and safe environment.
  • Oversees assigned administrative functions delegated to assistant principal and other site personnel for the purpose of managing the workload more efficiently.
  • Prepares various written documents (e.g. correspondence, reports, analyses, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
  • Presents information on various topics to a wide variety of groups (e.g. site personnel, parent groups, community organizations, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information and/or gaining feedback.
  • Recommends policies, procedures and/or actions (e.g. personnel, equipment, etc.) for the purpose of providing district personnel with direction and/or data for decision-making.
  • Represents the school within community forums (e.g. parent groups, city officials, service organizations, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining ongoing community support for educational goals and/or assisting with issues related to school environment, supporting fund requests.
  • Researches alternate funding sources for the purpose of maintaining the efficient operation of the school.
  • Serves on district committees and in district leadership roles for the purpose of achieving the goals of the District Strategic Plan.
  • Supervises school personnel for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing for professional growth, and achieving overall objectives of school’s curriculum.
  • Coordinates and supervises evaluation of certificated and classified personnel.
  • Coordinates and supervises professional development activities for the school.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
