About The Position

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, construction, and maintenance of electrical systems across AngloGold Ashanti’s mining and processing operations in North America. This includes power infrastructure, substations, process plant systems, and surface and underground electrical networks. The role combines hands-on field work with strategic technical oversight, ensuring that all electrical systems meet safety, reliability, and performance standards. You will act as a key liaison between engineering, construction, and operations teams, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and to specification.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (required).
Minimum 6–8 years of electrical engineering experience within mining, mineral processing, or heavy industrial operations.
Experience in both greenfield and brownfield project environments.
Proven experience with power distribution systems (HV/MV/LV), substation design, and process control systems.
Demonstrated ability to manage contractors and multiple concurrent engineering scopes.
Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, ISA, IEC, and MSHA standards.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, and project management tools (e.g., Oracle, PeopleSoft, Tableau).
Ability to read and interpret PFDs, P&IDs, electrical schematics, loop diagrams, and control narratives.
Familiarity with BI and data-driven reporting for performance monitoring.
Understanding of reliability-centered and condition-based maintenance practices.

Responsibilities

Lead and review detailed design of high voltage (HV), medium voltage (MV), and low voltage (LV) electrical systems, including substations, e-rooms, and MCCs.
Manage electrical control and automation networks (PLC, SCADA, and control panels) to ensure reliable operation and integration with process systems.
Conduct and maintain Arc Flash, Short Circuit, and Protection Coordination studies; ensure compliance with NFPA, NEC, and MSHA standards.
Ensure all engineering deliverables meet AngloGold Ashanti standards, project specifications, and relevant codes.
Extract and analyze engineering data from drawings, reports, and specifications to support project and maintenance planning.
Identify, recommend, and execute opportunities to automate process functions to improve safety and cost efficiencies.
Coordinate the electrical engineering function during all project phases — concept, design, construction, commissioning, and handover.
Support the development of engineering documentation including Concept Studies, Project Execution Plans, User Requirements Specifications, and Close-Out Reports.
Manage Requests for Information (RFIs) and ensure timely communication with contractors and internal stakeholders.
Collaborate with project managers to develop and track cost estimates, schedules, and performance metrics for electrical scopes.
Lead contractor oversight for high-voltage and electrical construction activities, ensuring adherence to AngloGold Ashanti’s Critical Controls and EHS standards.
Support commissioning and start-up of new electrical systems, ensuring operational readiness and safe handover to operations.
Support day-to-day maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical systems across mine, plant, and infrastructure.
Develop and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance plans for switchgear, transformers, and power distribution systems.
Perform root cause failure analysis on electrical incidents and identify system improvement opportunities.
Assist with electrical SOP development, lockout/tagout procedures, and documentation control.
Support site reliability and continuous improvement initiatives in alignment with global engineering standards.
Promote a proactive safety culture in alignment with AngloGold Ashanti’s Safety Management System.
Ensure compliance with company, local, and federal electrical safety regulations (NFPA 70E, NEC, MSHA, OSHA).
Identify and mitigate risks through systematic reviews and audits of electrical systems.
Participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
Continuously seek opportunities to enhance operational efficiency and reduce downtime through innovation and technology.
