We are seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead the design and development of complex digital hardware used in high performance communication products that are critical to the defense of our nation, such as sophisticated software-defined radios and data links designed for use in various ground, airborne, and space applications. This position is located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience.
  • At least 5+ years experience with all aspects of circuit card design from concept through delivery to higher level assemblies.
  • At least 5+ years experience with schematic capture of electrical circuit designs, and generating Printed Wiring Board (PWB) layout constraint guidelines and overseeing the routing and layout.
  • At least 3+ years experience acting as a hardware technical lead on circuit card developments.
  • At least 2+ years Signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) experience with ability to perform pre- and post-layout simulations and analysis.
  • Hands-on experience testing circuit card assemblies and performing design verification activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to prepare bids and proposals.
  • Project management experience using Earned Value Management System (EVMS).
  • Experience with Agile for Hardware Development, including planning, tracking, and managing hardware development projects in JIRA.
  • Familiar with latest technology trends in the area of high-speed digital design, as well as microprocessor, memory, FPGA and interface protocols.
  • Experience with signal integrity and timing analyses for creation of robust circuit card designs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform circuit card design lifecycle activities including requirements capture, schematic capture, design documentation, signal integrity analysis, creation of board stackup and routing instructions, coordination and review of printed wiring board layout, creation of test plans, root cause analysis, and integration.
  • Generate Printed Wiring Board (PWB) layout constraint guidelines and oversee the routing, layout, fabrication, and assembly of complex designs.
  • Serve as a hands-on technical authority and apply advanced technical principles to design and optimize complex electrical systems, including high-speed digital circuit designs.
  • Collaborate with a multi-discipline team of Engineers to develop proven hardware designs that meet system performance and operational specifications.
  • Prepare and present project and/or technical information to technical staff, program leadership, management and customers.
  • Test and troubleshoot electronic circuitry, including support lab of design verification testing for circuit card assemblies.
  • Perform trade studies as needed and select components necessary to implement the requirements.
  • Mentor others in personal technical growth and may lead small teams to success with schedule, budget, and technical execution.
