About The Position

We are hiring a Principal Electrical Certification Engineer to be part of a team responsible for developing test plans, test reports, and substantiation reports, as well as overseeing and witnessing testing activities for aircraft seating and specialty products. This role will develop and review certification documentation for electrical components and systems installed on passenger and crew seating, monuments, and seat-adjacent furniture. Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, Grounding & Bonding, thermal analysis, System Safety Assessments (SSA), Failure Hazard Assessments (FHA), PHAC, IEHA, CTS, Outline DWS, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), ensuring compliance with all OEM, STC, TSO, and regulatory requirements applicable to aircraft seating products. This position supports the Interiors Seating and Specialty Products organizations by ensuring seating products meet all applicable TSO and non-TSO certification requirements, including compliance to seating-specific standards such as TSO-C127, 14 CFR 25 Subpart C, D, and F, and applicable OEM requirements. The role will oversee seating electrical design and certification reviews to ensure programs are aligned with technical requirements and milestone timelines. The Principal Engineer will also develop and maintain seating-specific certification processes, templates, and work instructions to ensure consistent quality execution, including First Pass Yield and First Time Fix, in alignment with published RTX Lifecycle Program Management expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of relevant experience OR
  • Advanced degree and 6 years of relevant experience OR
  • In the absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
  • Must be within commutable distance of Medley, FL, and able to work a hybrid schedule with on-site presence as required

  • Candidate must be able to obtain, or be in the process of obtaining, regulatory authorizations such as Collins Interiors Seating PSP Signatory, FAA ODA Unit Member (UM), FAA DER, CVE, or similar designations for seating electrical test witnessing and data approvals.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Seating Engineering organization and execute assigned seating program certification work.
  • Maintain awareness of FAA, ODA, OEM, STC, and seating-specific regulatory requirements, modifications, and technical advances to ensure continued operational safety of seating products.
  • Review, analyze, and evaluate technical problem areas and initiate corrective actions to resolve certification and qualification issues at both the seat LRU and integrated seating system levels.
  • Own or support program-specific seating electrical certification strategies, including risk identification and mitigation plans.
  • Support strategic planning efforts for complex seating programs to ensure organizational objectives, customer commitments, and business targets are achieved.
  • Review and present seating certification plans, compliance reports, and program status to internal leadership, customers, and regulatory authorities as required.
  • Provide technical support for sales campaigns, customer proposals, and marketing activities related to seating products.
  • Travel domestically and internationally, as required, to support seating development and certification activities and serve as a recognized technical focal point for seating electrical certification discussions and regulatory alignment.
