About The Position

The Data & Analytics team operates as an internal startup, tasked with revolutionizing the construction industry through data and technology. We are building a cutting-edge data and analytics platform from the ground up, leveraging over five decades of our company's data and industry expertise. Our mission is to develop innovative KPIs, project metrics, and machine learning models that provide predictive insights to guide future projects. We are seeking a Principal Data Platform Engineer to lead the technical direction and management of our data platform. This is a senior leadership role for a seasoned expert who is passionate about building and managing large-scale data ecosystems. You will be instrumental in shaping the future of our data infrastructure, driving the technical vision, and leading a team of talented engineers.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in data engineering or a related field, with a significant portion in a leadership capacity.
  • Extensive experience with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Experience planning, executing, and managing technical projects from inception to completion.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and extensive experience with Oracle.
  • Hands-on experience with BigQuery and managing large-scale data sets.
  • Experience developing and delivering production Python applications.
  • Proven experience with CI/CD pipelines, test automation, and infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform).
  • Proficiency with Git and GitHub.
  • Deep understanding of ETL concepts and experience with modern ETL platforms.
  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a team of engineers.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A strategic thinker with a passion for solving complex data challenges.

Nice To Haves

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable and reliable databases, data models, and supporting infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Manage and mentor a team of data engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
  • Develop and execute the technical roadmap for the data platform, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Automate workflows, ETL (Extract, Transform, and Load) processes to streamline data operations.
  • Implement and champion DevOps and SecOps best practices within the data team, including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and automated testing.
  • Oversee the development and optimization of ETL processes and data pipelines to handle large and complex datasets.
  • Leverage expertise in Oracle, BigQuery, and other modern data technologies to build a robust and efficient data ecosystem.
  • Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and product managers to deliver data-driven solutions.
  • Stay at the forefront of new technologies and methodologies, and champion their adoption where they can provide a competitive advantage.
  • Participate in platform support and leadership ensuring high availability and resilience.
  • Enable self-service data access, manage permissions, user and system access to the platform ensuring a high level of platform security and safety.
