The following position is to join our BBN team: For over 70 years, scientists and engineers in disciplines at RTX BBN Technologies have collaborated to solve real-world problems through research, exploration, development and prototyping. We challenge the status quo, pioneer new technologies, and create transformative solutions. We are seeking a Control Systems and Signal Processing Engineer to join our Physical Sciences & Systems business unit located a stone’s throw from seaside Newport, Rhode Island. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to developing and evaluating signal processing and control algorithms in MATLAB, prototyping new capabilities and evaluating performance in simulation, analyzing data from real systems, and supporting evaluation and test both in-lab and in the field. The ideal candidate enjoys a multi-disciplinary role and is comfortable adapting to and identifying new technologies as needed.

  • Develop and implement control systems, signal processing. and physical system representations primarily in MATLAB and SIMULINK.
  • Lead research and development in technical areas including supporting proposal and program planning efforts.
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team testing your contributions and analyzing performance, to include unit-testing, integration testing, and performance testing.
  • Integrate components you develop into a larger system in preparation for real world testing and deployment.
  • Participate in system testing (on-site and at our customer’s sites), associated data analysis, and reporting.
  • Interface with the customer as the resident SME.
  • Lead and mentor a technical team
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date
  • Graduate level training in modern multivariable control theory
  • Algorithm development experience in MATLAB
  • Physical system modeling experience (SIMULINK preferred).
  • Experience with time and frequency domain signal processing and data analysis.
  • Experience implementing modern multivariable real-time control system and signal processing algorithms.
  • Hands on experience with time and frequency domain testing, data analysis, and system characterization.
  • Travel required to support testing
  • Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Physics, or relevant disciplines
  • Simulink and MATLAB experience
  • Experience with real-time signal processing systems
  • Experience with adaptive signal processing
  • System level requirements verification and sell-off
  • Python and C ++ programming experience
  • Linux experience
  • Experience in the full life cycle development of a signal processing system from concept design through production
