OVERVIEW A Principal Consultant - Professional Liability will work within the Delay and Damages Group. This person will secondarily assist with Surety, Subcontractor Default, Builders Risk, and other Complex Construction Claims and Disputes. Primary Responsibilities include performing claims analysis related to Professional Services type claims, involving analysis of causal connection and support of damages claimed. The Principal Consultant will also be performing Technical Project Due Diligence as it relates to Client Design Professional Underwriting risk assessments. The Principal Consultant must have experience working on construction projects and various cost and quantum-related analysis of change orders, construction claims and disputes for design firms, owners, developers, contractors, or insurance carriers around the world. The Principal Consultant will need to use their construction experience to analyze project files, examine records, investigate issues, converse with clients, write reports and present findings. While some travel to project sites may be required for inspections or project meetings, much of the role will be desktop reviews of project documents. The Principal Consultant must be comfortable working autonomously on analyses, with the oversight and assistance of the project team as necessary. The Principal Consultant’s prior experience in Professional Liability (E&O), Pollution Liability, Standard of Care, and Damage claims, as well as in Technical Project Due Diligence is a plus. The Salary Range for this position is $149,600 - $224,400 and is dependent on education, experience, location and certifications/licensure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management.
  • Construction Management and Engineering experience required with a minimum of 15 years of construction experience.
  • Proficiency regarding project documents including drawings and specifications, submittals, RFIs, contracts, and change orders.
  • Experience performing cost analysis work including change order preparation/review or dispute resolution. Forensic claims experience is a plus.
  • Experience performing Technical Project Due Diligence and Risk Assessments is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products such as, Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint.
  • The employee must be attentive, focused, and alert when conducting site inspections, speaking and interacting with clients, preparing written reports of findings, and testifying in deposition or trial. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary.
  • Knowledge of construction systems including civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and architecture for commercial, retail, healthcare, high-rise residential buildings, infrastructure (rail, highway, tunnels and bridges), sports and entertainment facilities, industrial and manufacturing plants, and airports.
  • Experience coordinating with disciplines internally as well as externally with consultants/architects.
  • Experience conducting and attending construction sites, as well as preparing site inspection reports.

Nice To Haves

  • The Principal Consultant’s prior experience in Professional Liability (E&O), Pollution Liability, Standard of Care, and Damage claims, as well as in Technical Project Due Diligence is a plus.
  • Risk Engineering and/or Underwriting experience with an Insurance Carrier is a plus.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred, Engineer-in-Training (EIT) may also apply.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, and BlueBeam is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis of Design Professional, Professional Services, and similar claims within the Delay and Damages practice, based upon a scope of work and budget prepared by the consultant and agreed upon by the Client in advance of performing the work.
  • Perform Technical Project Due Diligence for the related Design Professional Insurance Policy risks, being contemplated by the client for use on projects of all types including but not limited to Infrastructure (Rail, Highway, Tunnels and Bridges), Sports and Entertainment Facilities, Industrial and Manufacturing plants, Airports, etc. and produce written Risk Assessment reports detailing the findings.
  • Perform cost and quantum-related analysis on construction claims and disputes for design firms, insurance carriers, law firms, owners, developers, and contractors and produce written forensic reports, graphics and data models detailing the findings.
  • Manage multiple projects and coordinate with other support team members to produce client reports in a timely manner.
  • May be required to supervise and/or evaluate the performance of associate team members and serve as a team leader or project manager.
  • Be comfortable initiating, developing, and maintaining mutually beneficial client relationships.
