About The Position

This is a full-time remote position that can be located anywhere in the U.S. The Principal Cloud Engineer (AWS) is a senior technical leader responsible for the design, implementation, and evolution of the company’s AWS cloud platform. This role serves as a subject matter expert in AWS infrastructure, security, networking, automation, and reliability, and plays a key role in defining cloud engineering standards and best practices. At the Principal level, this role leads complex, high‑impact cloud initiatives, influences architecture decisions across teams, mentors’ senior engineers, and partners closely with application, security, and platform teams to deliver scalable, secure, and resilient cloud solutions that support enterprise systems.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or equivalent professional experience.
  • Extensive hands‑on experience designing, building, and operating AWS environments at scale.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex cloud engineering initiatives.
  • Deep expertise in AWS cloud engineering and distributed systems.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS services across compute, storage, networking, security, and platform services.
  • Advanced understanding of cloud networking, identity and access management, and security best practices.
  • Solid grasp of enterprise architecture concepts and system integration.
  • Ability to translate complex business needs into scalable, maintainable technical solutions.

  • AWS Professional or Specialty certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design and evolve AWS cloud architectures supporting enterprise and mission‑critical workloads.
  • Define and contribute to AWS reference architectures, design patterns, and engineering standards.
  • Lead architectural design for complex cloud initiatives and major platform changes.
  • Evaluate and recommend AWS services and capabilities aligned to business and technical requirements.
  • Architect and implement highly available, scalable, and secure AWS infrastructure.
  • Lead cloud migrations, modernization efforts, and cloud‑native solution design.
  • Provide technical leadership on complex engineering problems requiring advanced judgment and experience.
  • Review designs and implementations across teams to ensure architectural consistency and quality.
  • Design AWS environments that meet security, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with Security and Risk teams to implement strong identity, access, encryption, and network controls.
  • Establish standards for monitoring, logging, incident response, disaster recovery, and cost optimization.
  • Drive operational excellence across AWS platforms.
  • Act as a technical leader and trusted advisor to engineering teams and stakeholders.
  • Mentor senior engineers and help raise the overall technical bar.
  • Influence cloud engineering practices and platform direction through hands‑on leadership.
  • Collaborate across teams to align cloud solutions with business objectives.

  • Compensation depends on the applicable US geographic market.
  • The expected base pay for this position ranges from $133,000 - $190,000 annually, and will be based on a number of additional factors including skills, experience, and education.
