About The Position

The Principal Cloud Platform Engineer position is tasked with designing strategic cloud platforms by fostering empowered teams and adaptive mindsets. The successful candidate will implement advanced cloud-native and multi-cloud solutions utilizing Infrastructure-as-Code, Kubernetes, and Zero Trust architecture. Emphasis is placed on applying Site Reliability Engineering principles to develop resilient, scalable platforms. This role supports client delivery teams operating across Hertz's cloud environments and continually advances expertise in leading technologies such as Cloud, DevSecOps, containerization, Kubernetes, and cloud engineering. The anticipated starting salary for this position is approximately $175,000, with the actual salary determined based on relevant work experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 15-20 years of experience with cloud technologies, including AWS, Azure, and GCP.
  • Over 25 years of IT experience, including hands-on modernisation of complex, real-time mainframe systems into secure, scalable, cloud-native architectures on AWS. Experience managing enterprise-wide modernization projects with substantial mainframe proficiency (Unisys, COBOL, RDMS) and advanced AWS architectural capabilities to deliver transformative solutions.
  • Expertise in assessing legacy systems, defining modernization roadmaps, planning data migrations, conducting code reviews, and adopting cloud-native design patterns. Significant experience utilizing AWS services (EC2, EKS, Lambda, S3, Postgres SQL, API Gateway, CloudWatch). Migrated legacy applications to Spring Boot microservices for real-time operations; managed batch workloads through Apache Airflow. Designed modernization strategies involving rule engines and messaging platforms such as Kafka for near-real-time data synchronization with downstream applications.
  • Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional settings, guiding organizational transformation through discovery, planning, migration, application transformation, testing, and go-live.
  • Skilled in establishing governance, security, and operational frameworks in alignment with the AWS Well-Architected Framework. Recognized as a trusted advisor to both executives and engineering teams, with a proven record of delivering large-scale modernization results within highly regulated industries.
  • AWS certified, with experience working within SAFe Agile environments, contributing to product delivery via PI planning and iterative releases.
  • Proficient in one or more programming languages and familiar with commonly used data structures and algorithms.
  • Capable of producing production-quality code with moderate oversight, designing moderately complex systems, conducting code reviews, and approving code merges.
  • Strong communication skills, able to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to gather requirements and articulate outcomes.
  • Solid product awareness, aligning technical output with business objectives and making informed trade-offs.
  • Committed to continuous learning and adaptability regarding emerging technologies.
  • Familiarity with continuous integration and deployment methodologies.
  • Ability to contribute as a collaborative member across multiple work streams and product initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and participate in all phases of cloud platform engineering and development, including architecture, hands-on implementation, documentation, and ongoing support.
  • Design and engineer government cloud platforms leveraging Infrastructure-as-Code, GitOps, and containerization, with comprehensive support for microservice and serverless architectures.
  • Develop cloud platforms that streamline and accelerate lean, agile, and DevSecOps practices to enhance software delivery velocity, security, and stability.
  • Develop, document, and implement cloud automation and integration solutions to enable CI/CD and DevSecOps processes, facilitating deployment simplification and client adoption.
  • Create, configure, and manage Kubernetes clusters at scale, implementing best practices and overseeing service mesh management.
  • Establish an Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) framework using Terraform for AWS, automate infrastructure deployment and operations within AWS, and employ tools such as Python and Ansible to automate manual tasks.
  • Align development standards between the Solutions Architecture team and Engineering teams.
  • Architect and migrate applications from traditional datacenters to the AWS Cloud.
  • Collaborate effectively with the Hertz Security team.
  • Optimize resource allocation and utilization.
