About The Position

We are looking for a Principal Cloud Architect at Pulumi to join our Professional Services team to be at the forefront of cloud innovation, working with the world's most forward-thinking organizations to transform their infrastructure practices. You'll have the opportunity to combine deep technical expertise with strategic thinking, driving meaningful business outcomes for our clients while contributing to the broader cloud community. As a thought leader and technical expert, you will architect, design, and implement sophisticated cloud solutions using Pulumi's Infrastructure as Code platform while mentoring teams and shaping the future of cloud infrastructure practices. You will be a leader in our professional services organization building the practice to deliver solutions that exactly meet the needs of our customers and align to the strategic goals of Pulumi. Pulumi is headquartered in Seattle, WA. This role is 100% remote targeted for the Pacific Time zone with travel up to 25%. We are committed to our remote workforce and building a cohesive team.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional services, consulting, or client-facing technical roles with a track record of delivering complex enterprise engagements.
  • 5+ years of hands-on Infrastructure as Code experience with strong proficiency in Pulumi (preferred) or familiarity with Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM templates, or similar tools.
  • 10+ years of hands-on cloud architecture and engineering experience.
  • Deep expertise across major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and experience hybrid and multi-cloud architectures.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Go, or C#.
  • Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Strong project management and stakeholder communication skills, managing multiple concurrent client projects.
  • Strong understanding of cloud security, compliance, and governance.
  • Demonstrated thought leadership through speaking, writing, or open-source contributions; translating complex technical concepts for diverse audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Cloud certifications (AWS Solutions Architect Professional, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, GCP Professional Cloud Architect).
  • Experience with Pulumi Cloud, Pulumi ESC, or Pulumi Deployments.
  • Knowledge of service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd).
  • Experience with observability platforms (Datadog, New Relic, Prometheus/Grafana).
  • Understanding of compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, FedRAMP).
  • Previous experience at a technology vendor or consulting firm.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cloud transformation projects for enterprise and digital-native clients by designing secure, scalable multi-cloud architectures and migration strategies, and presenting solutions to executives to guide critical decisions.
  • Build reusable components, frameworks and governance models while serving as a Pulumi expert, driving adoption of IaC best practices and GitOps workflows.
  • Deliver high code quality and reliability infrastructure solutions, troubleshoot complex challenges, build automation and contribute to Pulumi’s open-source community.
  • Mentor and guide architects and engineers through content, talks and technical workshops; fostering knowledge and sharing continuous learning.
  • Key contributor to the continuous growth of professional services including the creation of offerings, patterns and practices aligned to the strategic direction of the company.
  • Partner in pre-sales discussions, proposals, and solution design to build ongoing relationships with technical stakeholders to support growth.
