Mott MacDonald is seeking a motivated and experienced Team Lead to oversee our Water team in New York City. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with strong technical expertise and leadership capabilities who is ready to take the next step in managing a high-performing local team. You will be responsible for day-to-day team leadership, project delivery, and staff development, ensuring alignment with our PRIDE values and commitment to excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or related Engineering field (Master’s preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in water/wastewater engineering and project delivery.
  • PE license in NY (or ability to obtain).
  • Proven experience managing small to mid-sized teams or mentoring junior staff.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead by example and promote a positive team culture.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with NYC water infrastructure and local client needs is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of water professionals based in NYC.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture.
  • Support staff development through mentoring, coaching, and performance feedback.
  • Promote health, safety, and wellbeing across the team.
  • Oversee and contribute to the delivery of water and wastewater projects.
  • Ensure technical quality, compliance, and innovation in project execution.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to meet client expectations.
  • Build strong relationships with local clients and stakeholders.
  • Support proposal development and contribute to business development efforts in NYC.
  • Assist in resource planning and utilization for the NYC team.
  • Participate in hiring efforts and help identify talent needs within the team.
  • Ensure compliance with internal processes and standards (QA/QC, timesheets, training).
