About The Position

Toole Design Group in Columbus, OH is looking to hire an experienced and talented full-time Principal Civil Engineer. Do you have proven experience successfully managing a diverse team to deliver highway or roadway projects from preliminary through final design, on time and on budget, while coordinating with clients, and inspiring and mentoring your team to deliver great work? Requirements

  • A Professional Engineering license in OH (other Midwest states a plus).
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering.
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following: MicroStation (including OpenRoads), AutoCAD (including Civil 3D).
  • At least 10 years of engineering experience developing construction documents and/or public agency construction administration (15 years for Principal Engineer).
  • At least 5 years serving in a project and/or design management role.
  • A broad knowledge base in civil engineering, with specific experience in roadway design, drainage design, geometric design, 3D modeling and design of accessible public spaces.
  • A proven track record of past performance delivering multiple large/complex projects on time and on budget.
  • Experience in preparing transportation and local agency permit documents.
  • General experience leading multidisciplinary teams, coordinating utility and right-of-way impacts, street lighting, traffic signal, and landscape/hardscape layouts.
  • Interest in multimodal and active transportation design.
  • General knowledge of project performance metrics and strategies for monitoring them.
  • Experience in business development including networking with colleagues and clients at public events, industry organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, design, and implement roadway, streetscape, and active transportation projects.
  • Ensure deliverables are of the highest quality.
  • Manage conversations between disciplines and client relationships.
  • Deliver projects from concept to construction.
  • Participate in business development pursuits in the home region and across Midwestern and North American offices.
  • Develop feasibility studies and concept plans and prepare construction documents for innovative projects.
