About The Position

This senior-level role is designed for a scientist who thrives at the intersection of electrochemistry, analytical chemistry, and sensor innovation. The Principal Chemist will lead advanced research and development efforts focused on electrochemical, amperometric, and optical sensor technologies for water quality monitoring, shaping both the technical direction and scientific rigor of the organization’s sensor platform. This position plays a central role in shaping the next generation of water sensing technologies. The Principal Chemist will influence scientific strategy and drive innovations that directly impact environmental monitoring, public health, and sustainable water management.

Requirements

  • PhD in Chemistry with a focus in electrochemistry, analytical chemistry, materials chemistry, or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated, deep expertise in amperometric sensors and current-based electrochemical detection methods.
  • Extensive experience (typically 5+ years post-PhD) in electrochemistry research or industrial applications involving sensor development, electroanalytical techniques, or electrochemical device engineering.
  • Proven track record of designing and executing complex electrochemical experiments, interpreting data, and translating findings into functional sensor technologies.
  • Strong understanding of redox chemistry, electrode materials, electrolyte systems, and electrochemical interfaces.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience developing, deploying, or validating water quality sensors, including pH, dissolved oxygen, chlorine, nitrate, or other electrochemically detectable analytes.
  • Familiarity with environmental monitoring standards, sensor drift mechanisms, and long-term stability challenges in aqueous environments.
  • Demonstrated success in cross-functional collaboration with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and validation of our next generation sensors for water quality applications, including electrode architecture definition and chemical formulary creation.
  • Drive experimental strategy for electrochemical method development, including voltammetric and amperometric techniques, calibration protocols, and signal interpretation.
  • Oversee the formulation, testing, and validation of water sensor prototypes under laboratory and field conditions, ensuring performance, stability, and regulatory alignment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to integrate electrochemical sensing elements into complete hardware systems, including electronics, firmware, and data-processing workflows.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, materials, and electrochemical approaches to guide long-term R&D strategy and maintain scientific leadership in water sensing.
  • Author technical reports, patent disclosures, and peer-reviewed publications that advance the organization’s scientific footprint.
