About The Position

As a Principal Category Supplier Manager, you will act as the main liaison for supplier interaction, performance oversight, and commercial discussions within assigned categories. This role is accountable for crafting and implementing category strategies that improve cost efficiency, supply reliability, and quality through supplier evaluation, market analysis, and targeted sourcing efforts. You will lead supplier negotiations, encourage cost-saving initiatives, and work with various departments to ensure suppliers meet business, operational, and corporate responsibility criteria. This role is important in communicating supplier insights to the business while maintaining company priorities and policies throughout the supply chain.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in one or more of the following: Construction Project Management, Procurement or Purchasing in Construction, Quantity Surveying or Estimating, Contractor or Subcontractor Management, Engineering (CSA, Electrical, Mechanical, Process) with construction experience
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating suppliers, negotiating contracts, and ensuring sourcing decisions that balance efficiency with high quality

  • Professional certification: APICS, PMI, CPM, CPSM, EIT, PE, or similar
  • Strong background in construction procurement, estimating, and quantity surveying
  • Expertise in construction costs, commercial contracts, and project budgeting

Responsibilities

  • Partner with internal customers to build a comprehensive view of supplier performance supporting long-term sourcing success
  • Develop and implement category strategies, including cost reduction initiatives, supply base optimization, and contract negotiations
  • Lead and participate in category-related projects aligned with business objectives
  • Build and maintain strategic supplier relationships to achieve category strategy goals
  • Act as the primary point of contact for assigned suppliers and contractors
  • Conduct commercial supplier qualification and development activities
  • Develop collaborative supplier relationships while proactively resolving performance and capability issues
  • Ensure supplier compliance with company code-of-conduct and corporate social responsibility requirements
  • Communicate supplier performance, risks, and key decisions to customers, including senior and executive leadership
  • Engage senior management as needed to reinforce supplier dedication and accountability
  • Serve as the voice of the supply base internally and represent company priorities externally
  • Participate in supplier segmentation and strategic goal-setting activities
  • Provide regular market intelligence, pricing trends, and benchmarking insights to internal customers
  • Develop and apply should-cost models aligned with global market conditions
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for assigned categories, sharing insights to support planning, forecasting, and execution
  • Lead or support negotiations for pricing, contract extensions, renewals, and scope changes
  • Coordinate with Category Sourcing Managers as applicable or lead RFQs and sourcing events
  • Incorporate savings targets, risk mitigation, and contractual requirements into negotiations
  • Develop and implement contract strategies, including creation, negotiation, enforcement, and performance monitoring
  • Partner with customers to align supplier performance expectations and site-specific priorities
  • Own and manage strategic supplier relationships within assigned categories
  • Define, track, and drive performance metrics to ensure continuous supplier improvement
  • Lead strategic supplier engagements, including Quarterly Business Reviews, Annual Supplier Evaluations, and Executive Review Meetings
