About The Position

The Business Manager will serve as a strategic advisor and thought partner to the Head of the gRED Translational Genomics and Proteomics (TGP) Center and senior leadership team. This role is central to shaping the Center’s operating model, driving cross-functional alignment, enabling rigorous business planning, and ensuring disciplined execution of strategic priorities aligned with gRED and enterprise strategy. The Business Manager must operate with enterprise perspective, organizational savvy, and strong execution discipline connecting long-term scientific ambition to near-term operational delivery. The Business Manager enables leadership team effectiveness by shaping strategic agendas, connecting enterprise priorities to execution, and anticipating organizational needs. With a strong grasp of the R&D landscape, this individual proactively connects strategy to action, facilitates sound decision-making, and identifies opportunities to strengthen how the organization operates, integrates, and delivers impact.

Requirements

Advanced degree in a scientific discipline (Ph.D. with 8+ years; MS with 10+ years or B.S. with 12+ years in a relevant life sciences field (or equivalent experience supporting scientific or R&D organizations).
A skilled communicator with strong written, verbal, and presentation abilities able to synthesize and convey complex information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
Highly organized, with exceptional program and project management capabilities.
Trusted relationship builder who fosters collaboration, psychological safety, and transparency across teams and leadership levels.
Agile and resourceful in navigating ambiguity and shifting priorities, with a proactive and solutions-oriented mindset.
Adept at identifying process improvements and delivering business impact through operational excellence.
Demonstrated experience in business management disciplines such as: Strategic planning Organizational development Project and portfolio management Business process improvement Change management Internal communications and engagement
Proven success leading cross-functional initiatives in complex matrixed environments.
Strong understanding of enterprise functions, organizational dynamics, and business operations.

Nice To Haves

Background in clinical development, drug development, or translational research is preferred.
Additional training or certification (e.g., PMP, Six Sigma, Design Thinking, Agile) is a plus.

Responsibilities

Serves as a strategic thought partner to the Head of TGP and senior functional leaders (Director and Vice President level), shaping direction and driving aligned decision-making in support of organizational and enterprise goals.
Leads short- and long-term business planning, including annual planning cycles, portfolio prioritization, resource and headcount strategy, budget forecasting, and functional goal setting.
Supports and strengthens the TGP operating model, governance structure, and leadership team cadence ensuring clarity of priorities, accountability, effective decision-making, and disciplined execution.
Drives leadership team effectiveness and operating rhythm, including agenda setting, executive-ready materials, and clear documentation of decisions, follow-ups, and outcomes.
Anticipates emerging organizational needs, integration risks, and capability gaps associated with a newly formed Center, proactively framing options and recommendations for leadership consideration.
Connects the dots across initiatives and stakeholders—spanning therapeutic areas, Drug Discovery, Translational Medicine, DevSci, CS CoE, and Roche partners identifying interdependencies and proactively addressing risks and opportunities.
Synthesizes complex scientific, operational, and financial information to support informed decision-making, preparing strategic recommendations and structured decision frameworks.
Drives high-impact strategic initiatives and change efforts that support integration of legacy departments into a cohesive, high-performing Center.
Advises on solutions to complex organizational and operational challenges, bringing structure, systems thinking, and pragmatic problem-solving to accelerate progress.
Supports key people and culture priorities—including leadership offsites, engagement initiatives, and recognition programs fostering a high-performance, inclusive, and purpose-driven environment.
Partners on communication strategies to ensure transparency, clarity, and alignment across stakeholders and organizational levels.
