About The Position

Washington State University Tri-Cities (WSU Tri-Cities) is seeking a Principal Assistant to support the day-to-day administrative functions of the Office of The Chancellor. You will primarily support the Chancellor and Chief of Staff, as well as provide support to the Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs and the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Operations. You will oversee the overall administrative support operations and coordination of the Chancellor's Office while also providing guidance to other administrative support staff on campus. As the Principal Assistant to the Chancellor, you are the primary point of contact for the Chancellor’s Office for internal and external constituencies, comprehensive administrative support for the Chancellor, Chief of Staff, and other senior campus leaders (as needed). Other duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, complex and intricate calendar management, meeting planning with senior level management, administrative officers and University constituents, special event planning and coordination across small to very large events; and detailed and complex travel planning, project planning and management as well as conducting research for reports. In your role as Principal Assistant, you will be proactive and independently prioritize tasks, manage competing issues, and demonstrate initiative while maintaining confidentiality and discretion. Additionally, you will serve as the lead administrative support employee for the campus by providing assistance and training, sharing best practices, and leading the administrative support staff in alignment with campus and University goals.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in business administration or other relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible management work experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing and maintaining effective and cooperative working relationships.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications (verbal and written) skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in preparing for and planning meetings and special events.
  • Experience making travel arrangements, coordinating schedules and preparing itineraries.
  • Experience working in an environment requiring confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with and supporting senior executives and/or leadership personnel.
  • Strong customer service mindset and skills.
  • Experience in fiscal activities, such as tracking budgets and preparing expense reports.
